3rd gen into a 2nd gen

need transfercase !!!

Alright guys and gals, putting a 97 12 valve in a 91 Chevy 1ton, first if any of you could give me some details of this conversion it would be well appreciated. and i have been looking aroud the TDR site for threads pertaining to this particular conversion. if there is any matierial that would help me,just let me know..... a 10 speed will be behind the 12 valve... . thanks Jeremy

oh and by the way ive got a buddy there in Redding, he has a 1 ton dodge flat bed with a 12 vlv in it, its kinda beat up a little and it probably still says texas hotshot company on the side, his name is Chris when you see him holler at him, hes pretty smart and knows alot on the 12 valves... . jeremy

camsv3500, I just took a glance at the website but couldnt find anything about engine placement in a chevy 1 ton, i already know how to rebuild a Cummins. im curious about the off set on a chevy and if the Cummins will fit like that or if it has to be on the center line..... Jeremy

jeremy...

some people offset the cummins an inch to the drivers side to get away from a pass side diff... but this is totally dependent upon lift,,if any... bodylift . . if any,, and type of cross member used. . I like the look of it straight as possible in the chassis

gen one mounts to stock chevy frame... redrilled

gen one mounts to aftermarket mounts,, theres a couple out there

custom mounts made by you

gen 2 mounts ( my preference) with a custom made mount

dodge crossmember . . modified to fit the chevy

chevy crossmember ... modified,, usually cutting a bit away for the ctd damper

custom made crossmember

these are your options... the parameters are pretty broad. . basically getting the engine in the bay as low as possible... it also depends on the transmission/ transfer case option how, and if, it might offset or be tilted in the chassis,,such as when using the p30 conversion

Im going to use

gen 2 mounts ( better vibration isolation but a little harder to fab up)

custom made crossmember, no offset

3 inch suspension lift... 2. 5 inch bodylift (so I wont have any exhaust issues)

I dont think youll find any more complete thread for a chevy cummins conversion than the one at ck5... theres probably 10 people over there that have recently done the conversion in various ways. .

I just want to confirm you looked at the "cummins in a chevy conversion thread"... its now about 13 pages long... and there are lots of pics... you are right however there is not much info on engine placement... feel free to write some of the members 59crewcab has done several conversions and fabs and sells mounts... Ill try to remember to address your question in upcoming threads

theres also several members here that have/are currently doing nice conversions... I assume you did a search

hope this helps
