Got my notice today for my '18. As @josephc1 asked, what's this going to do to my truck? The thing passes smog in Nevada every year. Why does anything need to be changed? I will say that when we had our '14 Passat TDi "fixed" the driveability stayed good and the mileage only dropped a little bit. But the mileage started at nearly 50mpg on the highway! My truck's mileage is, um, not very good  and any loss is unacceptable.

You have to remember that all of the Volkswagen vehicles passed annual smog tests, too.

We also kept our 2014 Passat TDI. Still gets great fuel economy.

I do remember that. I could go over 700 miles on about 15 gallons of fuel and still pass smog. Not sure how that was a bad thing except it proved that diesels should have had a place at the table as far as sustainable vehicles. VW really screwed the pooch.

I wonder if a gas rig goes 700 miles on how much gas what the emissions are compared to the 15 gallons you burn with "less than optimal" emissions.. Since the gas rig will burn a lot more fuel I wonder what real world pollutant values would reveal?

Got my notice today. I was not taking it in to the dealer but the paperwork says I won't be able to register the truck . Yes I'm in Cali. What blows me away is when the airbag recall came they never said anything about not registering the truck as this was the case with my 04.5 , I never took it in but could still register it.
Moral to the story the government doesn't care about life safety, but will do anything possible to make sure your in smog compliance.

It was bad because VW purposely used software that could detect when a vehicle was being smog checked and would apply the proper emission control programming, then reduce those controls while in normal use . Directly in violation of emission laws. Mileage is not the only measure of emissions.

The 67A recall: From CumminsForum.com a post late yesterday by “J98”: “Couple of guys on Facebook talking about this after having it done. Sounds like it just makes the trucks drink DEF like the '19+ do.”. Some other information, elsewhere, about cold ambient temperature NOx emissions suggested there may be an issue with our 6.7’s different from GM and Ford diesels, and another source mentioned software programming that shuts down the SCR system when “excess moisture” is detected. That’s as close to “information” as I’ve been able to find. Speculation: It gives hope that the 67A recall may increase our DEF consumption so we don’t contribute to smog when we drive in cold weather in a city (that matters to people near freeways there), but not adversely affect mileage or range. Hoping someone with more technical information about what will change with this reflash can contribute here. Do not like FCA’s implied threat that our emissions warranty might be affected if we don’t do it, but we have only 2+ years left on our 2018’s extended warranty anyway, and I don’t like potential driveability issues either.

This is what I have been assuming. If true, the worst adverse affect is more DEF use, no change in performance.

I would rather an increase in DEF dosing than performance decreases.

Wouldn't more DEF being cycled through the system could mean more clogged DEF injectors?

I remember reading that excessive dosing of DEF can foul the SCR system and DEF injector with deposits, versus the right amount.

You might want to try sending in the postcard that came with the recall with the box checked, "my vehicle has been repaired". It would be interesting to see if it drops off the open recall list in a few weeks.

Got my registration notice from DMV (I'm in Cali) yesterday went to AAA and registered the truck . I got my sticker so I avoided this recall for this year. Going to mail in the card with the box checked next.
