Has anyone used a gas Ram chassis and put a Cummins in it? I have a 2 wheel drive '98 2500 that I wish was 4x4 and found a '96 2500 gas 4x4 Ram for cheap. Would there be any mods required for motor mounts etc or would it all be a matter of bolting together the parts I want?

Keep in mind if you go this route aside from swapping out computers you will also have to swap out the dash and the complete wiring harness. Your going to have to swap gas tanks (and probably fuel lines) as well. This is just off the top of my head, im sure there will be other necessary swaps too. Its quite a bit of work but it is doable if your willing to put the foot work in.

Yes I am doing a 97 gas V10 to 97 motorhome 5. 9 diesel swap the PCM and diesel wiring harness you will also need to swap the diesel fuel module in the tank and fuel lines the rest is just hook up. The mounts are a bolt in. The speedo cluster will work just the temp gauge will have 210 deg where the diesel has 190 the rest is the same as diesel

I was thinking of just swapping the whole cab also. Since it is only held on by a few bolts that would make all the diesel stuff go on the 4x4 frame along with the engine. Both trucks are automatics so I think the "diesel" trans should plug into the transfer case fairly easily, and we just had it rebuilt last year.

I did the same scenario body swap (2x4 to 4x4) just like this with two early '70's Ford 250 years ago and it went very easy. My biggest concern with the Ram's is/was mounts. I have not ever had to pull a Cummins yet so not familier with the mounting systems. I know some Fords you have to cut out frame mounts when switching engine models.

Also I have heard that the gas rear differentials can be a smaller size Dana, but again that is easy to swap and use mine. It was rebuilt a few years ago too (had won a ATS cover at May Madness but it cost over 1000 to have it installed because the diff needed new gears, bearings, clutch packs, seals etc. SO much for FREE hahaha) Not sure if the front diffs are the same between gas and diesel?
