Chevrolet Cummins

Jeep 4bt coversion ???

I've read a little on the cab stretch for Gen. 1 trucks but I've also thought about putting my engine into a '92-'97 F-250 or F-350. I love that body and putting a Cummins in it will make it even better. I know there are two companies in Montana that do this. Anyone on here done it with a Gen. 1 CTD into one of those trucks?

1/2 finished with one

I have one in the shop that is bolted up and ready to put the wires and front grill on. I got the parts from Ken at auto world (not sure it's been a couple years). It's a 89 ford 2wd and a 89 cummins from a Dodge. It is not a bad swap at all, it is just taking me forever to get back in the shop and do it.

Lots of info on this model FORD/Cummins swap on this site.

Just finished helping put a 92 engine into a 96 F350. It wasn't too bad since the truck was formerly a powerjoke, so it was already set up for Diesel. We Used many parts from www.fordcummins.com Not too bad of a conversion. They claim it takes around 40 hours to do a complete conversion. We thought that it was high, but they were right. I would be glad to answer any questions.

YEA I did it, look in my readers rides for some pics. 93 ford 1 ton dually with a 93 cummins. There is also some pics of my 94 S-10 with a 90 cummins.

Hey all,

Got my Ford this weekend. Its a 1995 F-350 XLT 4x4 CC LWB PSD. She's got some scratches and a few little holes that were made in the process of removing a dent but no rust anywhere! All in all, not bad deal for what I paid IMO.

Right now I can't get 'er started. Thought it was the batteries so I replaced both batteries, which is fine by me because the guy I bought it from drained them down every chance he had by leaving the lights on. That didn't work. She tries to start but just can't. I'm going to get a buddy to help me figure it out 'cause I want to drive my truck - its easier on my guts than the Dodge!

I'm going to wait until February/March because I don't want to dwindle my savings too low. My tax return will cover the parts and stuff I'll need for the conversion. In the meantime, there are a couple guys up here (one who has done the conversion to his and is on this site and a friend of his) who are willin' to help me take the CTD out and get it ready (adjust the valves, etc) and I can part out my Dodge. The PSD has 187,000 miles on it and runs strong so I should be able to get some decent money for it.

KMSCD,

Does your tach move when your engine is cranking? If it doesn't move, think aobut changing your cam position sensor for a new one. They run about $100 at your International dealer if you have one near you, or try, heaven help me, www.powerstrokeshop.com They have them decently priced, just need to wait on shipping to your fine state.

Good luck.

how long has the truck been sitting? if it has been along time the you need to check your hpop. it is the thing right on front of the motor right as you looking in the engine compartment. it has a little alen plug on the driver's side. remove that and see if you can see any oil. if not fill it up and try to fire it off. if it does not start then check it again. that is of coarse if you have tac movement as stated above. you might also try this site www.thedieselstop.com they seem to know their powerstrokes over there.

The truck had been starting just fine the day I bought it. The said he used it daily to make deliveries for his sauna business.

I'll check the tach too RTao, thanks.

Update: Got the truck started. Apparently, I need to apply the gas just before starting it the first time for the day. She runs like a champ! I love driving a big ... truck! :-laf

PSD Help

I have some #'s of a couple local guys to help you with that PSD if you have anymore probs.

Need to get a real diesel in that F-350... ..... ;)

Yeah, I know. This is a good PSD but they sound loose compared to my Cummins... the lesser turbo lag is a nice thing though but I can get that fixed before I even drop in my engine thanks to the fantastic info on this site!
