A friend of mine was at an Rv dealer looking at a new motorhome with a Cummins Engine. The dealer sais there was a $5k add on penalty because it had a Cummins and someting to do with EPA certification . Anybody heard of this situation.

Doesn't make sense... . what year is the RV?If you ask if it has a Cat,I wonder if he would add a penalty charge. I am curious about this also.

What the guy is speaking of, but doesn't fully understand is the DPF and EGR system which is required by EPA... its added to the invoice of the engine by the body builder as an EPA requirement... . not a penalty.....

You have the Cummins option as one price, and the EPA equipment as a second line number... . If you ordered the CAT option it would show the same way... . and if you were to look at the sticker of a Class 5-8 truck it would be the same... .

Obviously a keen marketing stragedy to hide the added cost of extra emission equipment. I actually thought of that after I posted the 1st time but wasn't sure. Thanks!

It's the same line item as the so-called Blu-Tec emissions on our Ram trucks. My new c&c has a line on the MSRP (and invoice) "Ultra Clean Diesel System" for $995.

When I ordered my truck I was moving down the list of options on the computer generated order form. When I got to the line mentioned above I asked my salesman friend if I could choose not to order that "option. " He laughed. The answer was no, of course.
