Wife and I just bought a Dodge Caravan to complement the Dodge Cummins. Caravan has the 3. 0L 155hp V-6. Cummins is putting out somewhere in the 300hp range. (will dyno on 2/2/02!)

Caravan is averaging 18. 5MPG and Cummins is averaging 17MPG. Truck weighs approx. 3000lbs more than the Caravan, is putting out twice the HP, yet only getting slightly less MPG!

God, I love diesels! :D :D

Forgot one more thing... Our truck is MUCH more fun to drive and works well for mosquito control... . :D :D :D :D

You should be well over 300 HP with your current setup.

I have the same vehicle and close to the same results with my truck doing slightly better than the cara-POS-van. My van does 18 MPG and the truck just over 19. Amazing isn't it?

got both

Wife drives a 3. 3 l powered 98 Grand Caravan and I got a proper valved 97 Ram CTD. Both get mid 20's on highway mileage. The Ram hauls more dead weight and handles mountain highways much better. However, the Caravan fits 4 adults and 2 children in comfort.

In a couple years, I'm going to the local custom shop for 4 doors on the Ram.

My '91 Caravan ES 3. 3l AWD gets LOUSY gas milage too! (18mpg on a good day) I weighed the sucker a while ago at about 4200lbs. Incredible! No wonder it has no milage or performance! The Turbosaurus weighs 6110lbs and gets about 22mpg and is a rocket by comparison. The minivan's tenure is going to be short. If I'm gonna get lousy gas milage, I'm gonna have performance to go with it!

Exactly my thought!! Wife wanted the Durango, she got it. I wanted the 360, I got what I wanted too :).

Say it with me "There's no replacement for displacement" (Maybe a turbo, but that's not really an issue on the D). It may suck gas, but it hauls a$$.

My 2wd Club cab has done a best of 22 on the highway. Our 90 Grand Caravan with 3. 3 has done a best of 28 or so. Travelling over the same routes, at the same speeds, the Caravan does about 25 MPG, and the truck does about 19-20.

Oh, yeah, and in the 1/4 mile time, the van will still outrun my truck. Maybe not after more bombing, but it still goes farther on a gallon.

BTW, both have the same number of miles on them. 170K, both run like a watch. The truck needs some fixing, though.

My wifey has a camry. She can get 27, I have gotten 23. 1 I just tell her we may want to haul something so better take the truck. I ain't real crazy about cars and she can't drive a standard.

We live in the mountains, and my wife just bought a new Jeep Liberty. She's getting around 13-15 mpg, while the Ram gets 17-19. Mostly hills or 4wd roads.

'Course there's one category where the caravan will ALWAYS come in first — greenhouse gases! Lots more from that gasser than the big ol' oil burner:D
