Taking the truck to cummins for a valve adjustment, and said I would I would order them a new overflow valve spring to put in. They said cummins has a new overflow valve assembly for $59 and will notice quite an improvement over old style, puts in much more fuel. Anyone have any feedback on these?

It is an update style, but I have not noticed it being a performance upgrade. The reason they probably can get away with saying that is becasue when they sell/replace one it is becasue of low fuel pressure problems and a new valve will make the truck run better.

$59 is a great price from a Cummins shop. Piers has them on sale for $45. Cummins Michigan wanted $78

If you are not having fuel pressure problems don't spend the money on the overflow valve.

I have been reading alot about the extending the spring length to . 55 ". I thought at 60 K it would be wise to put a new one in . Thaanks RJ

No need to put in a new one if your fuel pressue test out ok. I wouldn't replace one based on mileage alone unless you are having the symptoms of a bad overflow valve.

Extending the spring length will increse pressure and in normal applications there isn't much benefit to raising the pressure past stock.

The first time I tested my fuel pressure it was ~45psi @idle, stock is 1/2 of that. After installing a new overflow valve idle pressure are 22psi and the truck idles much better.

I don't think blocking the return (lengthening the overflow valve spring) is a very safe way (good for the pump) way to increase fuel pressure.

Ryan
