Competition Cummins Power

I got in a real good race today between Waco and Fort Worth. It was a Z28 with some mods with a reported 370RWHP. From 60-120 he had nothing on the Cummins. We stopped and chewed the fat for a while. Three guys, one with a PSD who visits the Ford site. He sent me an email tonight which I figured you guys would get a kick out of... CJ

Hey what's up?? I found you email address on the ford-diesel website. I was wanting to ask you a few more questions about your truck. You ran a 13. 8 with the hp numbers you gave us today??? It seems like it should be faster considering that you were right on a low 12 sec Z-28. I couldn't believe how fast your truck was we were all in shock with you staying right next to us. Are you planning on selling your dodge when your new ford comes in?? If so gotta price? I thought I was happy with my truck's performance but after seeing what happened on the highway today I think I need a cummins! LOL. Anyways I guess I'll talk to you later.

Low 12 second Z-28 that only makes 370HP? I am not so sure about that... .



Either way though, I am glad you spanked him, no matter how fast he says he is. Anytime you can beat a sports car, no matter what the brand, is a great time.

370 rear wheel horsepower is about 450 at the crank... . 120-130 more than a stock Z which runs in the mid 13's. This was a 6 speed car that was no slouch. I wouldn't doubt for a minute that it was exactly what he said it was... big tach on the dash, headers and a cam that was causing him to run a little rich... CJ

You wouldn't believe the stories I heard while at the track with the Ford fellas. One guy cracked a piston enroute. I think they are runnin' too much propane which is rattling those pistons into rubble.

Glad to see you got back in one piece. Hope you enjoyed your visit to the Lone Star State. Kurts twins seem to be acting civil now. That propane is bad news. I took it off my old PSD do to the detonation... hard to control under all the different scenarios. I don't think as many Ford guys would use it if the injectors were not so expensive. Maybe the new 6. 0 will be more affordable in that department, but I doubt it. I am going to stay with No. 2... and maybe a little NOS?? Have you got those hoses welded on yet??... . CJ
