Ford Story

Too much fun...

Suppose a Rescue truck was a Ford C-8000 tilt cab chassis with the walk-in rear rescue body. If the truck came equipped with a Detroit 8. 2L Fuel Pincher (205HP) and an Allison MT-643 4speed auto... would a Cummins B5. 9 12V make a worthwhile replacement? Our volunteer department is looking at a used 1985 rig like this and I know those Detroits were not all that great.

The truck would weigh in at a 35,000 GVWR but I doubt it would get over 30,000. Plus the small inline 6 would fit nicely between the Ford framerails. I just didn't know how it would handle the trucks weight. It would reason a 250-275 HP 12V would work power-wise if a 205HP Detroit throwaway did.

The B-series are built for that weight class. . (30K) As for it fitting into the specific truck you mentioned, I havent a clue.

As the old saying goes, A big enough torch will fit up anything into a truck. :D

Our FD has learned that lesson, if the truck grosses 35k, then plan on it ending up 34,9 :D Go with the C if you have any hills in your area like we do, definitely won't regret it!
