Does any one know of a good shop in the NC area that can do engine performance up grades, exahust brakes and under drive/over drive auxilary trannys? My truck is a '98, 3500, 12 valve, 5 speed. 90K miles.

s/s 4" drop boards, Dual Designs, Mag-hytech, Kenwood 10 disc sound, custom mud flaps, CB, Smoothie, Fleet Guard, Amzoil, 20K Reese 5th wheel, Fold-a-cover hard tonneau, Turbo Wing air deflector. Next: TST, E brake & heavy exhaust valve springs, over/under drive, A pillar gauges.

Welcome to the TDR,

I only know of one and it is in Greensboro. It's located where I-40 and I-85 do their dance through "Death Valley" and split to go to Charlotte (I-85) and Winston-Salem (I-40).

They have a Chassis dyno there as well.

Come to think of it, I need to get over there and pick up my Red Cummins valve cover that I ordered a while back.

Good Luck

Welcome to the TDR Website!

"WOWZY" gave about the only Cummins shop

out here in easern N. C. However, we have a

Dodge dealership here in Jacksonville, N. C.

(National Dodge) that has a good diesel tech

by the name of Roy Whaley. He can install

alot of the accessories you describe and does

alot of work on my truck along with other TDR

members such as "Pete Peterson" and "CRud".

They don't have a dyno though. Their phone

number is: (910) 347-3777. Your signature

doesn' t show what part of N. C. you are in

so I don't know if this area is too far for you.

Anyway, good luck! I hope you can join our

N. C. TDR Club (unofficial). We try to meet

about once a month.

Take care!

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm in the Fayetteville area and work in the Smithfield area. The TST kit I'll do myself (doesn't sound too tough) and I may try the Exhaust brake myself too. The aux. transmission I'll have to have a shop install. Any opinions Gear Vendor vs. US Gears?

DBaker, there is a place in Charlotte, Rowells at 3219 Leota Dr. that has alot of experience at doing aux trannys, you might try them. There is also a Diesel shop that I think Bill Kondolay has for his transmission stuff for this area that is just west of Charlotte... ... ..... Pete

Rowells phone is (704) 333 5213

Welcome DBaker,

Just a little unsolicited advice here, go with the gauges first. I can tell you from experience if you install the brake and/or the fueling box first, once you add the gauges you will be surprised at the effect these things can have. Of course you know what the TST will do for your temps, but I was very surprised to find out how long the temps took to come down after killing the E-brake.

If you think you might need a hand with any of your mods give me a holer I'm just a few miles north of you. Although the overdrive unit is way over my head.

Like John P said hope to see you at one of our gatherings sometime.

Thanks for the lead on the Charlotte shop Pete.

Wes, I have a full set of the new style Auto Meter

gauges on the way from Geno's. Mark at TST suggests

putting the EGT probe in the exhaust manifold rather

than after the turbo and exhaust brake. He claims the reading

is more accurate there. My brother is a design engineer at

Holset. I'll get his opinion too. Let me know when you are having another get together and I'll try to make it. Dave Baker
