Memorial Day is synonymous with the Indianapolis 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and two weeks after the race, TDR members will have a chance to visit the speedway as a part of our 2019 National Rally.

To link the Indianapolis 500 to your Turbo Diesel truck, we previously did excerpts from Mr. Clessie Cummins’ book “My Days With the Diesel” and let Mr. Cummins tell the story of early engine development and testing that included racing his engines in the 500 in 1931.

In our latest magazine (#104, May 2019) we have another “Clessie’s Column” feature that talks about racing a Cummins engine in the 1934 Indianapolis 500 event to test the diesel two-stroke and four-stroke designs. Then, in 1952, Cummins goes to the 500 to test turbochargers.

Here is a reprint of the Issue 104 article as well as a historic link to a 1952 (that’s right, 1952!) Cummins video that describes the development of the car, the engine and the turbocharger for the race.

This is historic,

This is old school.

This is cool.

Enjoy the article and the video.
