Cummins still leaking

Okay, 1. dealer says normal blowby

2. replace rocker cover seal

3. replace rocker cover

4. replace head

5. replace head gaskets again

6. sat in shop wed thru fri while star and district manager figures out what

to do next because it's still leaking around where the head meets the block.



I now just wish they would authorize a new motor so I can get on with life. What a shock the ownership of my first Cummins has been so far with 4000 miles on the truck now. Dealer says Cummins and Star don't want to admit something like a porous block is possible with my motor because the motors cost to much to just authorize a new one. I'm trying to be patient, but da** it's hard.

STAY ON THEM!!! They have to do something with only 4000 miles the likely hood of them getting out of either fixing permanent or replacing is impossible with that low of mileage. If they won't fix it or can't decide, go the Lemon Law route and see what happens.

Just out of curiosity, is it leaking at the front of the head,slightly left of center? And on the passenger side above the oil cooler? Engine oil right ?

Bummer GBoatright. Maybe the block deck is out of whack. Almost sounds like dealer isn't very good at servicing your truck since they keep throwing parts at it and can't seem to get at the heart of the problem.



It seems these days mechanics are so dependant on their scanners and following shop protocol that they can't think for themselves and really evaluate a problem. They make lousy troubleshooters.

My truck is leaking where the head meets the block at the very back of the motor, just left(driver's side) of center. My dealer has done a great job except for the first trip in where they told me it was normal blowby. They said Star makes them start small before they can order the big stuff like the heads. Hopefully, I'll get a new motor ordered this week.

Please keep us posted on what DC does for you. I would hope if they can't fix it they will replace the motor. I'm sure Cummins would love to take a closer look at your motor since this is a rare occurance.

Quick update, dealer just called and some DC reps want to see the truck today at 1:00. I'll let ya'll know later what they say.

Just got back from dealer, and DC rep looked at the engine and said he couldn't quite tell for sure where the oil was coming from where the block meets the head or higher because there was oil all over. So he said to degrease the oil off and clean the motor so I could bring it in tomorrow and if the oil still appears to be coming from the block/head area, they would let the dealer order a new engine for me. Still a waste of time and effort on my part today and tommorrow after 6 attempts to fix the leak, but I guess I'm one step closer to getting this over with.

Do they have dye in it?

If it is leaking that bad, they should be able to see it after washing it off and looking at it with the black light and a mirror. .

GBoatright I'm really sorry to hear about your troubles. Sounds to me like this is a stand up service department doing what they can for you. I know it's frustrating and such a PITA. Keep your spirits up as much as you can, until they make you drink them down!
