Has anyone tried to make an adapter to convert the two 50-pin connectors to the 1 50-pin connector on the the Dodge wiring harness?

I'm sitting here staring at the harness diagrams for both and it doesn't look that difficult to connect all the things to make the Dodge PCM happy and have the sensors connected to the ECM to make it happy. All the rest of the wires are free to do the cool stuff that Cummins ECMs can do.

Just wondering...

Thanks

Yes, I looked into this a while ago. I have an adapter box all layed out. (I am going to say this from memory so take it with a gain of salt) The Cummins ECM and the Dodge ECM use different voltages AND one is sinking and the other sourcing.

Sinking = Wires coming into the ECM from a device are electrically hot and the ECM connects the incoming wire to ground to turn on the device.

Sourcing = the device is connected to ground at all times and the ECM applies positive power to the wire from the ECM to the device to turn something on.

The 'box' I layed out used a lot of solid state electronics to condition the signals as well as get the right signal to the right pin.

The problem I ran into is the 50 pin connectors. I need both genders in a panel mount version and both genders in a cable version. I finally gave up when I couldn't find anything.

The Cummins ECM has LOTS of stuff that the Dodge one doesn't. Examples are

1 Multiple high idle settings activated through cruse control.

2 Electric fan control.

3 E-brake can be connected to cruse control (if speed exceeds setting by 'x' amount activate brake, disable when speed is reduced)

4 Any Cummins shop can connect to it and be familiar with the menus.

Etc.

There are lots of things in the full ECM go to the cummins web site and look under the features.

If you get the Cummins "Quick Check II" Set-up for a Palm II or ? you will have all you need for your needs! I use it, and it is marvelous. :) :) :) It's helped me through not a few dealer confrontations. Oo.

What if you left the 100 pin connector and then convert it on the other end where the 11 and 14 pin connectors are at by the firewall? Is that possible?

Need Advice................

A buddy of mine, who just bought his first CTD, is a diesel mech. at a local timber equipment dealer. He just went through training for the 24-valve and ordered a pair of cables for our trucks to be able to use their program on. Now the questions. What should we look for, or look out for in this process? What areas should we avoid? Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Just out of curosity, what is it that you are trying to do with all this conversion?

I installed a Road Relay 4 in mine and have access to allot of info through it. Pin 20 on the ECM runs an exhaust brake in cruise mode, that is the way I set mine up when I installed it. The ecm provides the 12vdc signal out to the exhaust brake when the throttle goes completely slack for 1. 5 seconds. :)
