isn't toyota more focused on this hy-brid crap than diesels. And the way the diesel market is going i think the next 10 years will be very interesting. Hell isn't CAT getting ready to market diesels in cars/trucks aswell. I can honestly say right now that i will never own a gas motor again except for my muscle cars that i still need to get. It will be hy-brid vs diesel wars from here on out i think.



I think they signed with dodge or ford.

I don't see dodge getting rid of the hemi just yet though but who knows. Like i said, diesels are going to be the new thing so maybe.

Toyota knows if they want to make a 3/4-ton Tundra (and they do), it needs diesel power to compete with the Cummins, Duramax and Powerstroke, or there's no reason to bother. DC has stated many times that 75% of all 2500/3500 Rams leave the factory with #2 in the fuel tank. That means any newcomers have to hit the showroom with a competitive diesel.
 
Wht is it that Dodge keeps harping on HEMI this and HEMI that in commercials when the truck market and automotive market in general is turning more and more to diesels. Seems to me they should start beating the Cummins drum.

Seems to be a PDF of a presentation by cumins regarding the new diesels, and their performance against current gas motors, in small dodge's.



Toyota's diesels... I believe they are still blind to the us market for light diesels. They truly believe the US public will not accept them. That's the answer I got when I called a couple of years back, requesting their turbodiesel in a small truck be released in the US. It's a shame. The only thing that would be better than a diesel toyota, would be a cumins diesel toyota... IMHO.



Hybrids drive me to foaming at the mouth with thier claims of 45 mpg, when the little diesel rabbits used to get that... how long ago? Bring on the small turbodiesels... please?!

I agree. Why would they do a hybrid with a gasoline engine, when you can get a turbodiesel engine that gives you at least that much fuel economy AND performance? You don't see too many gasoline hybrids in Europe :-laf

Or imagine what a hybrid diesel would do...

After these new engines come out they will probably stop some of the HEMI hype but Joe Public wants speed and power and remembers the name HEMI. So thats the best way to sell trucks. If they mass marketed Cummins people would say "What the heck is a cummings? Why doesnt it have a v8?"

True, and while we are on the marketing kick, whats up with all these goofy ***** Dr. Z commercials of late??? :rolleyes: Is that really him? :confused:

Go to www.askdrz.com. I did a search for "cummins" and got "the Dr. has nothing to say about that yet" So I went the ask the DR. a question and asked why they don't advertise the Cummins. No answer yet... ... .....come on Guy's here is our chance to drive Dr. Z nuts with Cummins questions. Let em know that we love our inlines Oo. Oo. Oo.
 
Give Zetsche credit... after running Freightliner and Chrysler, he understands the American way of marketing. Schrempp would never have made those commercials.
 
Toyota will start building their new Tundra in a little over a year from now, but no plans yet of a 3/4 or 1 ton option. I have to say, a Cummins in a Toyota would be my ideal vehicle - definately would have the lift pump and transmission problems and the windshield wouldn't leak. Toyota is definately ahead of the game in quality - plus they are built in the US! :)

I have seen in this thread and others where lots of people keep going on and on about the "toy" trucks. What gives? What is so great about Toyota?

Sorta... if you've never owned a toyota, or been around them, or worked on them... you probably don't understand. In my opinion, and in the opinions of MANY other people who I respect highly, they are one of the best built vehicles being made ANYWHERE.



I was raised on mopar. My first car was mopar. And, I think, DC still builds good drivelines, for the most part, excepting the auto trannies of the last 20 years. But frankly, the rest of the construction sucks. Not so Toyota. The drivelines look weak, but are by reputation and design very tough, especially for their rating. It's like, instead of being underbuilt and over-rated, they are the opposite. The rest of the construction seems to follow that philosophy. The body panels are kinda light, but otherwise, the Tacoma we currently drive is twice the truck of the Dakota we replaced it with, except for in HP.



I love my 1st gen CTD, but I avoided any of the later trucks, because of what DC did to them that makes them less usable and reliable, IMHO.



Of course, your milage may vary...

i'm a cummins lover by all means and will always own the cummins diesel regardless of what truck they put it in unless they go chevy cause for some reason i just don't like chevy nor the hard core chevy guys.

Anyway as i said before i believe cat is coming into the consumer game here and if they went to toyota that would be a nice truck but like i said i'm all cummins and hopefully they stick with dodge cause i do love my truck and i don't like change especially vehicle brand swithes. Hell i want to buy the caliber w/ a diesel in it when they come out with it, for my wife. anyway its a little off track sorry. Back to cummins putting smaller diesels in lighter duty trucks

Why does everyone think that Dodge designed the CTD fuel system?? It was designed by bosch ok'd by cummins and is on the engine when it is shipped to Dodge.
