According to Cummins, the "Torqus Maximus" will not work in a 2001-2002 Dodge. This is in direct conflict with what Marco has stated " Any ECM will work in any truck". So the question is, has anyone tried the Torqus Maximus in a 2001-2002 Dodge?

If so, how was the performance? fuel mileage? Cost from Cummins?

I would like to pick one up for our truck here at the school.

Thanks,

I thought it was only for ETC (non HO) trucks and it did'nt change Hp, just brought the torque up to 505 ft lbs. I was interested too, about the cost of the update.

Torqus Maximus

Spoke with Cummins, cannot give me a part number for the ECM upgrade unless I give him an Engine Serial Number. The S/N should then alert him that it is a 2001 engine, which in turn the response should be that the Torqus Maximus will not work in this truck. As soon as I get back to school I am going to write down the engine S/N and give it a try. Not as Marco would say " Clear as Mud" more like " Love those Murky Waters " ! LOL

There must be someone on TDR who has played with this upgraded ECM and has some idea of what is going on with this. There is quite a large number of the membership that loves to play with this stuff. Just need for them to post their experiences.

Its been a while but if I remember they would only sell them to manual truck owners, no autos (had heard they were even asking for vin numbers before selling them) and that the power gains were not worth the 900 or so dollars they wanted for it. It was cheaper to get an EZ or whatever and get more power for much less money. Don't remember there being any issues with a specific year. I may be all wrong here though memory seems to be fading these days.

had one on my 98. 5. too much $ for gain provided. also yr and transmission specific. wldnt work on a friends 98. 5 47re equipped rig. cut out condition just off idle

these were only available for 98. 5 and 99 m. y. trucks and only for sale for limited time

They were also available for model year 2000 trucks. They may still be available. The Cummins website doesn't seem to be updated on any kind of a regular schedule. The Torqus Maximus shows up on this page.

Thanks,

Marco said that any year ECM would work because he could reflash the correct software for your model year and trans when he installed his Catcher programming, he did not say any year software would work and actually said that the software was very year / model specific. He also has found that the 2001 software has at least 12 differant versions that are not interchangable so that may be the reason cummins gave up with the tourqus maximus after 2000, if you have followed Murle's problems in the last few pages of the catcher thread theres quite a bit of info on this.

I bought a brand new Torqus Maximus off of E-bay for the purpose of having Marco make a CaTCHer out of it. jrobinson2 is correct Marco can make any work because he can reflash them. I can tell you from first hand experience that the TM won't work in a 2001/2002 truck. The one I bought was for a 2000 year truck and since my truck is a very early 2001 I figured I'd see if it would work, well it doesn't. The truck will run but it's a little wierd. The 2000 trucks have a crank position sensor and use that signal for the tach, the 2001 and up trucks use a cam position sensor and don't have the crank sensor. When I started my truck with the TM it spit and sputtered for a few seconds and then idled nicely but the tach was dead (that would mean no cruise control also) I never drove it down the road this way, I put the stock ECM back in. After Marco figures out the 2001 bugs I will get the ECM reprogrammed by him for my truck.
