Concerned citizens and exhaust smoke

I saw earlier on Monster Garage, Jesse and his guys ripped a Cummins N14 out of a 70's Peterbuilt and used it as the frame for a tricycle. They connected via u-joint the semi's rear axle directly to the transmission, and fabbed a single wheel front end for it. The driver's seat was situated to the left of the engine, in sidecar fashion, and they even mounted the exhaust pipe so as to blow all the sound/soot directly into passing motorists' windows. It used a belt-driven compressor and an air tank to operate the air brakes and to retain the Peterbuilt's horns... It looked slightly difficult to shift, but was totally awesome!

Jesse originally didn't want to make it a trike because "real motorcycles" have only two wheels, but he relented when he realized just how heavy that thing is.

I finally got to see that episode last night...

I decided that I must build one before I go to the great guilded dragstrip in the sky. It's a really cool project.

Matt - must have Cummins powered 'trike.

I would have liked to given them the detroit out of my big Dodge for the Cummins, then that trike would have been a total p. o. s

Especially if they had someone that knew how to play with the governor... .

The 'signature' modified 2-stroke Detroit idle:

"ruuup... . ruuup... . ruuup... . ruuup... . ruuup... . ruuup... . ruuup... . "

Gotta love that !!!!

Matt

Jesse didn't have a clue, thought he had a olds diesel maybe? what a waste of a motor, the man is a hell of a metalsmith though, then the master builder guest doesn't even pressure test the tank?! Even Ray Charles could see how AFU that thing was turning out.

I'm really glad that the producers/editors of the show used the clip (several times... ) of the guy saying that he was humiliated on national TV.

He's a jacka__.

Matt

roflmfao. some ppl are so full of pride they lack that one thing we like to call common sense. why wouldnt he have pressure tested that tank? he put it best "national humiliation. " although, it was a pretty cool trike.

I liked how Jesse let him squirm - and then finally gave him the quick-fix epoxy.

I truely hope that someone permanently fixed that tank by re-welding it. I'm all for a quick-fix to get something going... but you gotta do it right at one time or another.

Matt

yeah that was pretty funny. i also liked how they kept replaying that d00d asking jessie if he was "questioning his welding abilities. " i had to laugh at that guy though. .

Kinda wonder why they even used the transmission... ... ... with that kind of torque you could probably just let the clutch out in most any gear... . no real weight to worry about. Not too many 14 liter cycles out there!!
