Check out this real SUV Diesel

shelf life of diesel & should i stock up on fuel now

I have a mouthy old boy round here who keeps tellin me his truck can whip mine, wants to pull off, although i think i know the answer to this who has the better odds, and why. His truck is a ford 3/4 ton 4wd with a 460 v8 in it. you can check my sig for my info. I am not bombed just a factory 02 HO with k&n filter in the factory box and straight pipe. I don't believe his is all hopped up, pretty well stock seeming to me. just gotta ask, and if it ever goes down i will be sure to get a video. if he is lucky i won't have my comp by the time he gets around to trying his luck.

A lot of factors can play into that. However, I'd put my money on the truck with the diesel. Ford 460 is a big powerplant, but it just doesn't have the the low end torque of a diesel. Assuming there is no breakage, you should snatch him around. With that 6spd and A/T tires, I don't see how he could move you.

Go to a tractor pull sometime where they allow street trucks to pull. Gasser street trucks have a heck'uva time moving the sled.

That's my . 02...

OH YEAH... perform this stunt in the dirt. I'd steer clear of the pavement. You're liable to snap something.

If you do it on pavement, just put it in 4WD, lock up the brakes, and just let him try to move you. With your weight, I don't think you will go anywhere. In all seriousness, I would never attempt something like this. Chance of braking something is not worth it. Best way to show off a Cummins is to hook up a 10K trailer and race up a 10,000 foot 6% pass.

Is it worth you breaking something very expensive over his old turd? I'm sure he wouldn't be out much if he broke something.

Tell him that you will be glad to have a pull off the next time there is a truck pull in your area, the one with the longest pull wins. That way everything is fair and square and he wont be able to whine about how you stacked the pull off in your favor.

What model ford is it? If it's new than an 80 model, hook to him and his front end will blow before yours (d-50 and small axles) Like they said, he would have to get is motor turning and your peaks torque at 1500. It's no contest.

hey kissfan, just show him this video of a furd gettin drug around like a rag doll. :--) :D :-laf

it's even worse now, he smoked me in a chevy today :{ :{ :{ i couldn't get around him, not enough speed, he is really pushing my buttons, almost caused me to wreck my truck. He is an idiot, i would love to get him in the dirt and drag him all over just for satisfacton, i had thought about tractor pulls, but then again, i feared breaking something expensive, and have no clue on how to do it (lauch, gears, etc). Thanks for the info, it is a 70's ford i think, i have never seen it, a friend has though

This kind of pull off has little to do with Motors. It is about weight and traction.

Make sure you weigh more, then take him home with you.

The 460 is a good motor, good torque curve. Yours is better!!!

It also depends who's hitch is higher, this is a big factor. The truck with the higher reciever hitch usually wins, because when the chain (or pull rope) is taught you take away traction from your opponent by lifting his truck up and he doesn't get enough traction.

Let's assume both your reciever hitches are equal heights, tire tread & truck weight are similar, you should take him.

Am inclined to agree with Klenger. A practical test is hauling a heavy trailer up a steep pass. Only have Donner Summit in our area here, but it only goes to 8000 ft. elev. Only have a 7575 GVW trailer, but with the HO in our 04. 5, still have plenty of passing power at that elev. if I need it. Thats a good estimate of usuable torgue.

lmills, I posted that video link on The Diesel Stop. I even mentioned something like "this won't last long, but enjoy". And it didn't last long. The mods killed it. They hate the truth!

Of all the pull offs I have ever seen, the one that breaks traction first, loses. Let him break traction and then drag him where you want to. I do agree that this is a foolish way to prove something but... . try a local pull or better yet, dont stoop to his level. Its obvious he knows what truck to gun for, thats probably why he is giving you a rough time.

Having owned a '97 straight axled f-250 with just a few mods and some low gears. Crew cab standard bed. I would not put even a penny on this bet. If I were to hook my '05 CTD to my old Ford 460. I would run. Both are really strong and both have a lot of weight behind them. It will all come down to whoever can out drive the other. My Ford tipped the scales at 9700lbs. I don't think the CTD quads even come close. just my . 02. Take him to the track.

That Dodge didn't have many mods.....

as there was no large amount of smoke coming from the old exhaust - and what about that DUMB Guy standing between those rigs - he obviously hasn't seen any pulling straps, cables etc break has he???????

kissfan,

tell him to meet you at Reedsville on august 5th for the pulls there ...

Lewis county fair has truck pulls here the same weekend too ... just not sure which night ...

just make sure your hitch is at the max allowable height ...

he don't stand a chance
