Well the payload is different due to the extra weight of the cummins. Just like the 2WD can carry more than the 4WD.
I have not owned a gas V8 or V10 dodge so I cannot offer any real numbers.
But, you will get much more bang per gallon in the diesel than the gas, the V8 will have to work harder, therefore use more fuel, and dodge is not known for economy on it's V8's (Or V6's for that matter, a good friend has a V6 2wd durango, lucky to get 16 or 17 on the highway, our 350 V8 Suburban gets over 22 on the highway).
The V10, well much better for the wieght than the V8, won't have to work was hard, but still won't be as good as the cummins per gal. Or longevity either.
The cummins, won't have to work at all

, plus it sounds cooler. Hehehe
Another factor is the price difference in the gas eng vs. the cummins. It's about 6 grand, and you will have to drive quite a bit to realize the savings in fuel.
But if the cost of the truck gas vs. diesel doesn't matter, I'd go with the diesel.
I did

And I have nothing to haul or tow. The more I drive itm the more I love it. I'd buy another one. Just wish Dodge made a crew cab like the super duty.
