plastic??? Just bought the pump yesterday from a Cummins dealer, opened the box today to find the vanes are indeed plastic. Interesting.

Well that's interesting. I just picked up the Gates Cummins replacement pump about one month ago from Geno's Garage and the vanes are steel. However, upon close inspection I see the "Made in China" moniker on the box. Say it ain't so. Looks like we're doomed for sure.

Not the end of the world. When properly engineered, plastic has it's merits.

Wow. I just replace mine not long ago with one from Genos and it was the Gates with the medal blades. Did not know they had gone to plastic at Cummins. I think my Gates was made in Mexico... but don't hold me to it.

Sure hope it lasts longer than the Gates pump I just installed in January.

The engine Mack is calling the MP7 is actually a Volvo D11. The waterpump looks like the old Chrysler 2. 2 pump on steroids, very flimsy aluminum, and has a plastic impeller. If you walked in my shop and saw this thing on my bench, you wouldn't believe it's from a class 8 truck engine. I was so blown away, I took a picture. It's somewhere.
