I was reading a paper called the Farm Show. There is a story in there about a guy in Wis. with an 89 with 1,780,000. He said that the only thing he has done is replace the exhaust and ball joints twice. He changes the oil every 30,000 and uses Mobile Delvac. Just thought you guys would like to hear about it.

There Was A Study Done A Year Or So Ago On Mobil Delvac 1300 On Big Rigs. There Was A Number Of Different Things The Study Highlighted, But The Biggest Thing Was That Without Changing The Oil The Mobil Delvac Went 300,000 Miles In These Rigs And The Oil Still Was Not Broken Down. If You Do A Search On The Net You Will Find The Study.

Crikey! With that many miles - I find it hard to believe that the transmission (auto or manual) is original. Not to mention the differential(s), etc...

Heck, the differential in my '94 needed to be rebuilt at 150k miles...

There's no doubt in my mind that the engine will last that long - with a few alternators, water pumps and maybe a rebuilt injection pump or two bolted on.

& I was changing it ever 5k ...

I was paying just under $100 for 4 gallons. I wonder how that new Truck & SUV stuff compares.

i use the truck and suv formula in my 96. its a 5w40 100% synthetic. according to mobil it is the same exact formula as mobil delvac 1 5w40 but with a label to appeal not just to the trucker but to the general public. all it is is new marketing for a great product.

I kinda wonder. Ya you can do extended oil changes. But its the additive package thats in the oil that breaks down.

The one that I worry about is the corrosion inhibitor. If that break down, things start to rust. I hate rust.

yeah but

guys it sounds incredible but i doubt that he drives his truck the way alot of us drive our trucks. I know he doesn't drive like i do but he does live in wi which means more cold starts. I thought my 293,000 was pretty good but i guess not

i don't think the 0w40 has a diesel rating. i know mobil1 5w40 is a ci-4 ch-4 among other ratings. tha soot control has been outstanding since i switched over to mobil 1

What do ya'll think about switching to Mobil Delvac. I have 225k on my 95 and delo has been the only thing run in it. Just seein what ya'll though. I just want to do everything I can to make the motor go longer without changing the oil every 3k. Thanks

which mobil delvac are you talking about. there is delvac 1300 which is a great motor oil or mobil delvac 1 which is a superior diesel 100% synthetic oil. delvac 1 is also relabeled as mobil 1 truck and suv formula 5w40 which you can find in your local walmart. i started putting in the delvac 1 or mobil 1 at 105,000 in my 96 truck. i can't believe how clean the oil is now there is no soot at all. i also put mobil 1 in my transmission with positive results.

the full synthetic is the best to run it provides superior winter startup of a 5w weight and outstanding summer protection of a of a 40. the mobil 1 synthetic is more costly through at walmart. at walmart mobil 1 is 5. 00 a quart where mobil delvac 1300 is 5. 88 a gallon. what it comes down to is personal choice and preference. i prefer only the best though. oil is cheap engine is expensive. i even run mobil 1 in my lawnmower, motorcycles and so on.

EGaskamp-

I dont think switching brands will hurt at all. If going to the synthetic, be sure you fix any and all leaks. I vary the brand by which ever Wal Mart has 3 gallons of at the time, but keep it a CI-4 rated 15w40. I've never hears of switching BRANDS having any ill efects, but I'm only 25. Figure these engines will go 750K+ with normal oil and filters, I'll spend my money on trying to make the drivetrain and body last that long, and skip the synthetic oil unless I start driving a LOT of miles sometime.
