Have seen lots of threads on Geno's Cup Smoothie vs the console

latch. Lots of solutions - lots of (minor?) problems!

Yes - I have one. Yes - best addition to the truck!

But . . . . in spite of the directions, had problems latching.

[Looks like everybody does]

Some have "modified" the plastic on the smoothie,

some "smack" the console lid to get it to lock.

Some have given up on latching - if they never flip the console up

for a 3rd seat in front.

I had a bunch of those same problems -

including the one where it locks and won't open!

Think I have if figured out . . . finally.

1. Shim the latch like the instructions indicate. I used one fairly thick

washer under each screw.

2. Remove the "rubber snubber" that's in the console lid just to the rear

of the latch (it just pulls out).

3. Here's the "biggie". Having done numbers one and two above, thought

I had it made. Seemed to work great. Then the *#@^&* thing wouldn't

open! After lots of pulling, wiggling, (etc. ) it would open. Tried pushing,

pulling, smacking , too. Couldn't figure out why sometimes it would work

great - but twice stayed locked up tight - then suddenly open.

Took the latch out to figure if I did something to it when I shimmed it.

Theres a small "concentric" - looks like an uneven triangle - it's in

the opposite end of the latch mechanism from the handle - moves

freely (it's loose to "swing" back and forth).

When the latch is horizontal - console lid down - it should hang free.

When the latch is up (vertical) it blocks the latch from opening by

contacting the end of the metal latch "box".

[I guess intended to keep kids? in rear seat from opening the console

when it's in the "up" position, spewing the contents in the back seat area].

For some reason it get's hung up in the "block" position and won't allow

the lid to open . . doesn't seem to have anything to do with the Smoothie.

So - for number 3 (finally) - take a bit of weatherstrip adhesive, glue,

whatever - and glue that critter to the position it's in when the console

- and the latch - are in the down, horizontal position.

Probably should add this was on an '05.

Geno's . . . . are you listenin??????

man, I just took off my smoothie 10 minutes ago because the stupid thing would lock up. . funny, I just got done banging on my lid just a few minutes ago. maybe I'll keep the stupid thing afterall. But has anyone else busted a few plastic clips trying to pull the plastic shroud off?

Yes, I noticed the little swinging lock thing a while back but was to lazy to take the thing apart and remove. Never thought about the glue thing, good Idea!

The kicker to installing this on my 05 was that the "triangle thing" needs to be hanging free when you reinstall the latch. If you install the latch in the upright position, the latch will not operate. You need to put the screws back in while the lid is 1/2 way closed. Then it works like a charm with one small washer on each screw. Took me about 15 minutes to figure this out and 5 to have it work. No problems here!

Plastic clips & -

Hasselbach - I work on it from the passenger seat. Found you

only need to take top portion off and about half way down on

the pass side. You can access the screws thru the hole for the

latch. If they're already broken - guess you need a plan "B".

MJawsman - good eyes! Wish I had spotted that before . . . .

but can't help wonder why it works for a while, then locks up?

Is it possible it gets bounced around into the locked position?

[4 x 4 - and rough roads?]

Yes - the thing must free itself eventually (mine did).

But sure is a pain in the *** when you need to get in to the

console and can't!

Anybody having that problem that -DOESN'T- have a smoothie

won't be commenting on the various Smoothie threads.

Once again - Geno's needs to read a few of the Smoothie threads!

Better instructions would probably have saved some busted clips like Hasselbach's.

I've printed this thread off for the Geno's staff to address on Monday. Thank you for the head's up and for the suggestions.
