I was wanting to know how many people were running a Hot Rod VP and what kinds of gains people were seeing. Will it still be daily drivable? Right now with the 200hp Jr injectors, which are AWESOME, in the truck I feel I've reached the limit on fuel delivery without a bigger pump. I was wondering if y'all would suggest a Hot Rod VP when this one goes south or if I just want more power. In about a year, after I get out of school :{ , The truck is going to be taken off the street and into the shop to become a race truck. Twins are also in the future! :-laf Thanks in advance yall!

My VP is taking a crap right now and the $$ difference between the Hotrod and the regular is 600 bucks. In my case I will get the regular pump because the hotrod is only supposed to give you 40 HP more and instead of 40 HP I would rather have a turbo so I can use the 400 HP approx that I am trying to use towing with a stock HY Turbo.

So is 40hp all that the Hot Rod is better for? A turbo does sound like its more bang for the buck! Thanks for the reply.

Eric

The HRVP44 is a great pump. The gains you will see will depend on the amount of air you have to clean up the fuel. Since your truck is a ETC your gains will not be as big as a ETH truck like mine. I sell the pumps and have done tests with my own truck. I have seen number gains as high 83hp out of the pump alone, and for my own results, well I only gained 30+ hp, but I am also dumping a ton of fuel and no bigger turbo yet. I have seen one truck with the HRVP44 and a Phat Shat 66 go from 489hp to 606 with the swap. It is your call but you have to keep in mind the HRVP44 has a new case, new electronics and a couple of other goodies in it, unlike a reman.

Thanks Jim, or just call Brady @ Industrial Injection, he will tell you like it is.

It's my understanding that pretty much ANY internal mod to a VP-44 warrants a testbench and calibration run for best verification of mods or repairs done - and that would be ESPECIALLY true for so radical a mod as is done for a HRVP...

SO, question is, are the outfits doing this mod Bosch certified, and actually use a Bosch VP-44 test bench on the HRVPs they are selling?

Or are they simply swapping in parts and boards, crossing their fingers, and letting the customer do the "final testing"?

Yes Industrial Injection is a Bosch Certified, Brady works very closely with Bosch, and Bosch watches them very closely. The "test stand" you refere too yes that is what they use to bench each SHOVP44. If you really want the answers to how a VP works, call Brady, he is very easy to talk with and knows the pumps well, and does not keep secrets about it.

I have been running a HRVP44 for about 5 months now, and like it. I turned low dyno numbers due to a connector not plugged in, but now am waiting for spring to dyno again. I am sure I am making more than I put down, and the HRVP is feeding it well.

Well ya turn on the cruise and it works great. The difference with the pump is the amount of fuel it delivers. Nothing more... ... ... ... :D

Good to know. I was just wondering if it got sloppy like it does with some boxes/injectors (since the hot pump is more responsive).

It is not the cruise that gets sloppy, it is the response of the truck. The servo is trying to make adjustments to hold a speed and the Cummins responds too fast to it when BOMB'd. I can't use my cruise with the mods I have, drives me nuts, but the fix is to slow the servo down with a screw, there are some threads on here as how to do that I just haven't done it yet.

That's good info, and thanks! :D

I have a like new, low mileage late run VP-44 I keep as a spare - I wonder if an outfit like I-I does HRVP conversions on customer-provided pumps, or only on an exchange basis - and what they charge - anyone have an idea?

Yeah, I can call and ask myself - just thought someone might have already been down that road...

I want one too,but only if there is no sacrifice for "DURABILITY/RELIABILITY/ LIFE of the pump",are they building a better pump or are we just getting more fuel  . When my stocker take a dumb sure it would be great to have a HRVP,but if it comes down to have more HP or being dead on the side of the road,it will be a rebuilt stocker for me :( . PS ---maybe Brady can fill us in on some of our concern between the two pumps. Thanks DW

My cruise control was pretty useless after my HRVP. The truck surged pretty bad... ... it made me laugh though, it was kinda funny! It was like VRROOOOOM,STOP,VRROOOOOM,STOP,VRROOOOOM,STOP,etc. :-laf

After hearing all the replys it makes me want to get one. I'm hoping for 600hp with my set up now plus a turbo or a set of them. Thanks for the input. I can't wait for the money to come!

Re: Sho Vp44

The answer to your question on how we build our SHO VP44 pumps is this. We always put in new updated PSG's (Brain Box), New housings, New head & rotors, camrings and many other new parts that make the SHO VP44. It's close to a new pump! So if you consider all of these extras that we use, you can see we are giving you a very good deal at the prices we sell these for. We always use the best and do our best. I hope this helps with your concerns. Thanks 1-800-955-0476

Thank You... Brady, I am happy with mine and all the input you have giving me about the pumps, as well as other things. Jim.

I am currious about the cruise controll too. I had to stick a piece of a WD-40 spray tube in the vacuum line to my cruise control diaphragm... that made it a little more usefull, but it still surges below 65 MPH... with the VP44.
