Just in case this was missed in the 24V eng/Drive thread

Wow guys (And Girls) I have no idea HOW I made it this far without this thing ! Sure now I am bombed silly and thats fine HOWEVER once things start to go due to the added demand ... ..... No more running outside for that special number that Cummins allways needs ... ... BANG its right there with a diagram AND with the part # SPECIFIC to your rig.

Each Customized Parts Catalog is imprinted on the cover and the spine with your name, your engine model and rating, and your engine serial number for easy look-ups. Contents include service part numbers, diagrams, service kits and Cummins ReCon Number listings

Other than the Full set of manuals for the truck I think this is a close seccond (Other than Trans mods)

Check it out -----------------------------> http://www.powerstore.cummins.com/c...ized_Parts_Catalogs&template=customized_parts

WOW! even after reading some of it I am amazed at the data that our engines have registered along with them at the cummins plant! For instance (Not that this applies to me anymore with the PDR40) but take the Turbocharging unit ... ... . The breakdown of the data that goes along with that particular unit (HY35) is mind boggling. Even the VP44 has something like five different versions and the catalog supplies you with the EXACT part # required to call up and get a new one and even goes into detail about the fueling rates and rpm stops and more on the ecm.

Each part breakdown has its own diagram and locational picture ... ... very well made indeed. The main reasons I can see having one is to save the time when on the phone with Cummins and you KNOW you WILL have the right part when it arrives.

There's a whole bunch a numbers there!

Kinda new to this game. A Former Chevy guy. Where should I look to find the serial # for the engine? I found a few decals with numbers. Just need to make sure I identify the right one.

Randy

Hey Rand , The data plate is located on the upper Right hand (When viewed from the front of the truck) side of the timing gear assembly cover Right next to the Injection pump. In fact the radiator hose partialy blocks the view.

HTH (Hope this Helps)

On Order!

Mentioned to The Boss that I found a nice book I’d like to have. She asked how much, I told her and she said for me to order it for myself for my birthday! Who am I to argue? :D It’s a done thing now. :) Three days by UPS – oh, the wait…! Uh, plus printing time, of course... :eek: Ship date: 10/25.

Trust me you won't be dissapointed. It is more of a pice of mind knowing that you have COMPLETE comprehensive knowledge once you team This manual along with the big svc manuals as well.

DOH! I misread your post the one number you need should have 8 digits in length and start with 566 something.

I ordered mine yesterday:D . Ship date 10/25, can't wait to browse through it. Great idea Cummins had and gives all of us the parts breakout of that specific engine.

Tool Man thanks for the link to this. I bet alot will be ordered.

Tool Man , I was wondering if the Cummins " Customized Parts Catalogs " were worth it and your response to them tells me that they are. Thanks for posting ! I just ordered mine. Thomas

I am sure that theese have been disscussed on the board in the past however I do not remember that they have been talked about. I stumbled upon them while grabbing a bunch of stuff from the power store and wanted to share my findings on them.

I'm not real clear as to exactly WHAT that book provides the individual owner? Is it ONLY the specific part #'s for his SPECIFIC engine, perhaps with a illustration of each part, or is it more detailed, with drawings or photos of the internal parts, and perhaps rebuilding info and part #'s as well?

IF it's primarily just part #'s for that specific engine, THAT you can get FREE, right at a local Cummins store when you provide them with your engine # - Yeah, I know, the personal ownership of a parts book of yer own has it's attraction... :p ;) :D

Gary , Yes and yes. It contains the proper calibrated part (especially when it comes to the fuel system) number , description , tolerances , and exploded view assembly diagram that pertains to each individual part and its assembly location on the engine. I don't have it here with me but the page count has to be upwards of 150. and is spiral bound. Man if this thing is free :mad: :( :{

Tool Man, from reading in the Operations and Maintenance manual, I was left with the impression that the information itself IS freely available - if you have access to Cummins. Since Cummins is on the other side of town (far side of KC, unlike some of you guys who'd have to go across the state!), I think it's worth having this detailed information at your fingertips if it's needed. For instance, Kenworth is right down the road from me, and it's a 24-hour operation including the parts department. I can get parts from them very quickly and easily, and they're often a lot cheaper than Cummins! Besides, these customized parts catalogs make great coffee table discussion items, too, with your name and engine description on the cover... ! :D Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
