So I am in the works for getting me a new rear driveshaft for the truck with the new 271 case that will be going in soon and I am having trouble locating a reputable shop that can make me a 4"+ diameter shaft that can take our engines torque and power.

I called a place in Texas called the Driveshaft specialist and he quoted me a 4" diameter shaft with a CV at the transfer case side for around $600. Not too bad a price for all the quality parts and material he quoted to be using. But does anyone know who else around can help me out in this dept?? Would anyone at Schied or Haisley Machine, for example, know where to look??

My new shaft length should be in the 70-75" range. I haven't measured it as the case is not in the truck yet but, rough estimate is telling me that's the new length. And yes, I will be eliminating the carrier and running a 1 piece shaft.

Thanks for the help! Joe

That's what I thought, what about Schied or anyone else? Just want to keep my options open as I look around.

Thanks, Joe

I seem to remember Greensburg Machine doing custom dshaft work. Also check High Angle Driveline. They do a lot of heavy stuff for the offroad crowd.

Greensburg Machine does alot of truck pulling drivelines and they also know Dodges! Good prices on lockers and all read end parts too! Oo.

Give Mark a call.

When I was in the search for a set of custom shafts for my conversion/puller project Haisleys were able to help me out!

I did the upgrade to the Heavy wall 4" rear shaft, upgraded 1480 joints and the front shaft is 3. 5" diameter heavy wall and was upgraded to 1410 joints. I was looking to get shafts made up here but no one would do a one piece shaft for me in the length required (84" long)

Haisleys were a great help in getting what I needed. I got the rear slip yoke, and two front yokes included and the actual joints for about $850-$900. I was amazed how far Van and Patty went to help me on these shafts... my rear axle is a 11. 5 AMM (GMC) unit which Van had no experiance with me and he searched for that yoke with out much luck but did tell me that AAM calls that joint a 1485... so with that little bit of info I went to GM and was able to source a yoke and # and then back tracked it to what it came from and had my local drivetrain shop get it for me (saved $$$ over GM's price)

Anyway... great shafts and for a long rear shaft like it is... . its ballanced great with no vibration!

Check them out!

Have to plug Mark at Greensburg Machine here, he has probably built more driveshafts for pulling vehicles than the rest of the shops combined. High quality work, reasonbly priced.

Also a great source for lockers, ball joints, bearings, etc.

And no, he never sponsered me.

Nothing as of yet, its sitting as a exspensive yard ornament untill I decide what I want to do. That will be a while, at least untill I get the kitchen and family room remodeling done, that is if I want to stay married :D I am in no hurry as the season is done for me here there are only two more pulls left out this way.

i got mine for $500 up graded to the 1480 all the way through and haven't had a problem since i still have my carrier as well the shaft was done by a local shop six states dist. no problems yet and no viberations :D

You have a PM.

I had my shaft done up with 1480 U-Joints with a 271 Tcase like you have. The shaft was 4. 095 by . 180 thickness.

No problems yet with the driveline, now I'm breaking and twisting axles instead of shafts.
