Custom Switch Panel / Radio DIN Adapter

I thought I'd show you guys the custom switch panel I just finished up. I'm going to need to make the switches light up now, I'll either put LEDs in them or beside them. I made it so it should accept any aftermarket DIN size radio if/when I end up changing it out.

So far 4 are reserved (I think) one for controlling when the AC compressor is actually on, one for my Smart-Controller, one for the backup lights and one more for the fogs. I just need more toys to control with it now, any suggestions?

Nice, clean install Lots of options for those switches. Don't give up until you use em' all. You could always add - interior lights, running lights, trailer "blinker", etc.....





I noticed in your sig. You run an edge and injectors with only a torque converter upgrde for the trans. Any problems with that so far and how many miles have you run with this setup and how strong does it feel?

Its a full DTT upgrade transmission, not just a converter. I did run the stock setup with the DDIIIs and Edge Comp for about 4 months. Once I did the injectors I didn't use the Comp at all though.

It would be great if I could get myself to document this kind of stuff with some pictures, but I almost never get the camera out once I'm into the project.

The project started out with by measuring up a store bought DIN adapter I was using. I didn't like the extra trim ring that needed to be used with it and I didn't like all the wasted space that was left around the radio. Evenutally I got around to modeling up in CAD a new version of a DIN adapter that would hold the radio without the trim ring and place it so that I could squeeze in the switches around it.

The switches took quite a bit of searching to find. Tts difficult to find off the shelf rockers that look decent in a vehicle interior and would also fit in the factory radio space with an aftermarket radio. They are made by Lamb Industries , they have many different combinations available, but its hard to get exactly what you need in limited quantities, e. g Green LED effect light. So I'll probably just modify mine to make them light up myself. Radio Shack actually sells a similar switch that would almost work, but I couldn't get it to fit into my model the way I have it setup.

The panel was made from a 8x10x2 block of ABS that I CND'd from the CAD model I had made up. Getting plastic like this isn't cheap so I had to make sure it was done right the first time, hence all the CAD modeling etc... I think I could actually get aluminum for cheaper and anodize it black.

My setup is very similar and I used a muonting plate that is available from stereo installer shops that was originaly for a radio at the top and a seperate equalizer underneath and the block off plate that comes with it is perfect for mounting switches.
