Customizing Factory Wheels

I really like the look of the chrome stocker wheel, but not a huge fan on the overlays. It is a really cool idea though.

OMF's standard anodized colors are red, blue and black. Since I'm a dealer for them, I want to run *their* product as they normally mfr them. Since we're looking to grab attention, blue or red was the better choice over black. You can get them polished only if that's the look you like. Down the road, I might powder coat mine a different color.

what is involved in having the factory wheels chromed? Is it expensive?

Looks good, but I believe black would look better as well. It also seems to be missing a center cap. Just my $. 02

Welp, can't do much about the center caps really unless you want to pay a machine shop to custom build something. Or, you can always stick the ugly OEM center cap in there. Heh heh!



It's not easy working with what came with the truck. I think this is about as good as it's gonna get. Of course, the color of the ring can be changed.

You could use the chome centercap that come with the steel wheels? Just a thought. Personally I kinda like the look w/o a center cap.

Hey Kilby,

What ever happened to this idea? All it needed was a cap. I found Chrome Lugs that fit that wheel. A cap that was an external screw on would work. The "C" logo in the middle would be sweet!



I haven't bought new wheels yet but when/if I do it will be due to that butt ugly hub cap that comes on the factory cast wheel.

Welp, there wasn't enough interest to pursue it. It's a shame too because these wheels look nice when chromed and/or a simulated beadlock installed.



Btw, these rims are hubcentric. This means that the center bore is machined to ride on the hub to center and located the wheel properly (look close, you can see the lip). All the lug nuts do is hold the wheel on. Typical aftermarket wheels use the lugs to locate and center the wheel on the hub. Without re-machining each wheel, there isn't a simple way to put a center cap on this wheel.

3 or 4 small holes with a plastic insert would do nice. My Ford Ranger had factory caps that were held on that way with stainless phillip screws.



I did source out a cap that presses into the front rotor covering the big bolt in the center and it could be chromed or powder coated. That with chrome lugs look not too bad but the rear hung me up on what to do there.



Its a shame to have to buy expensive wheels to get rid of that hub cap.



Another option would be to machine the center hole to accept an insert cap but finding a cap that fit snug to center the wheel is another feat.

If your going for the 4x4 look how about a nice polished spindle nut. Than might dress it up enough with the right lug nuts?
