2006 2500 4x4 with 106,000. No upgrades and only occasional towing of my tractor.

Five or six times now I will hear a tick or a knock from the engine compartment, it is not very loud. Sometimes the truck will lose power for just a split second and sometimes it does'nt. I will look back and see what appears to be a puff of white smoke out the back.

It does not seem to matter how much fuel is in the tank, throttle position or weather I am accelerating or cruising. It has not done it while pulling the tractor (about 6000 lbs. ). Thanks for any help. Please feel free to ask for additional info. I am not very experienced with diesel vehicles.

No current codes. The only code I have had recently had to do with inlet air temp. I cleared it and it has not come back.

Pour a bottle of 2 stroke engine oil in the fuel tank and see if it clears up. Sounds exactly like an injector hanging up. If it doesn't re-appear, I would just start using a lubricity additive (or continue using two-stroke oil)

One other thing, keep a check on the oil level to make sure its not actually worse than you think it is...

Thanks for the suggestions. I will try that. I used to use a fuel additive when I first bought the truck, with about 25000 miles on it. However, I got the impression from some of the articles a fuel additive was not necessary or even recommended. So I quit using it. I was just concerned about this new low sulphur diesel.
