Just went camping pulling 5er toy hauler, loaded. My engine started cutting out with no throttle response, then back to normal. Was doing this randomly. Did not seem to be rpm, speed, temp related. Pulling about 15k, cruising at 65, 2000 rpm's, 1000egt's, level grade, 95-100 outside air, real smokey from fires(so cal), 13-14 fuel pressure, 20 boost. When it first started I was going through real thick smoke but I could'nt see this causing it. Pulled over checked my intercooler hoses, all tight no leaks. Started up grade, started cutting out real bad, no throttle response, would slow down to idle then suddenly pick back up. Cleared up for another hour or so than started again, randomly on and off. Camped, then on the way home randonly again. Acted like I kept losing boost pressure, blocked the waste gate hose and seemed to clear it up, but did not drive very far this way, was not sure if this was the problem ,although I did notice more boost pressure and power, Could my waste gate be bad. Only code was P1693, the old common one.

Ok ? Apps, waste gate, VP. Been reading but not sure yet, Any input would be greatly appreciated.

2001 PDRHX35/14, DDedge/comp, DD2's, ATS transmission and controller, PacBrake. Just black smoke when cutting out like it's not getting air just all fuel.

Sorry so long.

clean or replace you map sensor. might as well do the AIT while you're at it. but the jerking and bucking is sometimes caused by a dirty MAP sensor or bad ground to the fueling box.

grease (di-electric) the map harness connectors and power wire and ground to the edge.

that smoke may have dirtied your map sensor is my first guess.

Thanks for the reply I will try that, but is not really bucking or jerking, it just flat out dies and drops to idle, loses all the boost. Then suddenly runs normal again. But I will pull the map etc and check them out. My iat is new I will replace it with the old one to see if that changes. I also cant the the symptoms to return while not towing. Later.

Never mind fault codes etc. I need to find someone that can check for me, I only have code P1693 right now. Need to find a scanner etc. THanks

I can guaranty you have more than 1693! that is not a failure code you will see by itself!!!! It only tells you to look in the companion module. Get a scanner that will see both ECM and PCM you will see more DTC's :D

OOPs I read my post and it looks funny, I did'nt mean (never mind fault codes) What I meant was (never mind what does that mean). I'm trying to find someone with a scanner right now to check the other Ecm codes etc. I to am sure there are other codes just need that scanner. The truck has not done it again since back from camping and it only did it while hooked up to the 5th wheel, not sure if that contributed or not, anyway thanks bob for the input. Later.
