Cyclone Diesel Great, BD Power PITA

I ordered a BD Governor control kit from Cyclone Diesel last week. Chris at Cyclone was of great assistance to me, and I wanted to give those guys some praise for that.



BD, on the other hand, has got some issues. I have a 2003 truck built on 28 Feb 03. For those of us who were around then, you may recall that early 2003 trucks had the TPS mounted on the engine just in front of the intake horn. Mid-way through the production year, the TPS was relocated to under the driver's side battery.



So I ordered BD part number 1037595, which is for a 2003 standard transmission. Well, not quite. I get it in the mail today and read the instructions. It shows that the tachometer wire for the controller must be connected to the transmission control module. Well, duh, I don't have a TCM since it's a manual! So I called BD about this. They said "connect it to the ECM". Okay, no problem. Then I mentioned that their instructions show the TPS in the wrong location, and they said "oh, then the governor won't work because the connector changed".



Information I could have used a week ago, BD! They say they're making a new governor with a new connector, but it's not ready yet. So now I have to ship my control back to Cyclone and I've got a new one on "backorder" waiting for them to make it.



What's my point? Be very careful with anything you order from BD. I recommend calling them and asking for a copy of the installation instructions and reviewing them before purchasing.



I will post to this thread again and let everyone know what happens when I get the new part.

Mor craziness

I was boxing up the control to send back to Cyclone when I thought I'd check out what the technician at BD told me to do about the RPM signal wire that is supposed to be attached to my non-existant transmission control module. He told me I should connect it to PIN 22 on ECM connector C1. Well, that pin is "Vehicle speed sensor". According to the governor manual, however, the pin that you connect to on the TCM (if you have one) is crankshaft position sensor.



These people don't even know what to connect their own product to! How can I trust them to make quality products that won't screw up my engine if they:



1. Fail to provide accurate installation instructions.

2. Fail to properly correct those instructions when I called their "tech" line.



I ask you, how am I supposed to have any confidence in BD products?

That's good to hear. I've know Chris for a couple years now. Good to see he's doing well selling diesel performance.

Amen! I went throught the same thing with BD on an X-monitor and they told me that what I was describing wasn't possible on an '03. Turns out that the picture in the instructions was for an '02. When I tried to bring that to thier attention they stopped returning my calls! Two thumbs down for BD...

Well, this issue has come to a resolution. BD claims "Dodge changed plugs again and the one on my truck is discontinued" and the idler will have to be hard-wired. And thus ends the last time I will ever attempt to purchase from BD power.



I do want to say again that Chris at Cyclone Diesel gave me some great customer service on this issue. I very much recommend them!

FYI - pin 24 is the engine RPM sensor. It's the one I had to tap into when hooking up the remote start.
