ok... I may get the opertunity to pick up a mid 80's D-50 with the mitsubishi 2. 3 turbo diesel... . does anyone know anything about it... are there any resorces online about it. is it a good engine? any input would be great. thanks
Friend of a friend had one. He was always bragging about the MPG he got, and he had several hundred thousand on it, but parts availability was poor. And that was 10 years ago.
I had one, 27 mpg highway, decent power, sounded cool with a straight pipe. Glow plugs over $25 each, had to plug in if it got cold even with glow plugs.
and i have found out that the ford ranger had the same engine 85-87, and the mitsubishi might max had it also. . not sure on the years for it though... any others with experience or hearsay??
Previous neighbor had one. Nice little truck. Got to drive a few times when I did chores for them when they went on vacation.
As far as the D-50's, had a neighbor that has/had one. Had over 300k on it, mostly highway miles. Used it to pull a trailer to haul combine parts all over the midwest. Rusty, but a goodie. He eventually went to a 'Burb w/6. 2, then to a '93 D-350 CTD. Still has the Dodge (175k+), not sure on the D-50.
Know of someone else that had a diesel D-50. Cam broke, was welded back together, and ran for a long time after 'til they sold it.
