Need some help from the oilpatch guys.

any special or hidden talents?

I have a DI-713P wireless router and DWL-650 Wireless LAN Adapter Cards. I am using this to share my cable modem between my personal laptop and my company's laptop(required for firewall). Everything works fine if I am hardwired to the router but I can't get it to work wireless? Any Ideas?? You guys can typically fix anything.

My Laptop - Compaq Presario 1800 with internal Ethernet Card

Company Laptop - IBM ThinkPad with internal Ethernet Card

Both running windows 98

Thanks

Scott

I've never used a wireless system. (Well, not quite true. I did use Motorola's Altair 10 years back... . ) You probably need to ensure that security codes, if any, are the same on both sides (of the RF link), that both sides are using the same spectrum (frequency) and that the computer's transceiver is 'allowed' on the wireless base.

I don't know how much, if any, of the above apply, but it sure does sound like communication is not happenning across the RF interface.

Configure the WAP SSID and encryption on teh access point, then go to the laptops and make sure the settings match the WAP. Its either the SSID or encryption setting that isnt matching up between the laptops and the access point.

Noticed you said win98... well, here's something to check

right click on "my computer"

choose "hardware or device manager" (can't remember what it's called)

there should be a list of stuff. . one of them is called "network adapters" click on this and a list should open up. . if there is more than one in there, right click on it, select properties, then choose "disabled in this profile" or something like that.

Win98 gets really confused if there is more than 1 network card in a machine. Most likely your laptop already has 1 built in... . (this is what i had to do to get my wifes laptop running on our wireless lan)
