D-Max jealousy?

Thanks, TDR Staff

Hi mileage

Real Truck!!!

IFS is in the 1/2 ton

Saw one right out of the factory at the Scheid event, it did have the IFS front end. But everyone who looked at it said it was real beefie. The DC rep said no IFS in the 2500 and 3500 trucks. But did think they would look close to the 1500, and with full size door. He thought

DMax

No thanks, don't want want anything that pulls... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... . LIKE A ROCK:eek: ;)

I have a hard time understanding why so many people at getting so stirred up about the Maxihype. It looks pretty good but no track record yet. I do get a bit amused at all the mighty claims. When I wear out the Green Monster I'll go truck shopping again. Of course, that assumes that I don't wear out before he does. :D:D

The Green Monster

Lion's Drag Strip in the '50s. Running Allison powered dragster. Heck, I was there the Saturday night the first time Big Daddy ran his Swamp Rat in So Cal.

Good looking: nothing special. (I liked the looks of my 81 Chevy better)

Quite: yes, but that is not why I purchased a diesel.

Puts a smile on your face when you drive it hard: OK, what ever that is suppose to mean??? I don't have to drive my Ram hard to put a smile on my face, but if I do,:) that tend to happen.

I guess to answer your question: No, I am not jealous.

All of the DMax owners that I've seen don't even want to play. They're like cockroaches, you turn the light on them and they run and hide. I'm dissapointed.

The most powerful diesel?

All of their ads say "It's the most powerful diesel available in a pickup"... . well, maybe, on the dyno  . But we all know how dyno's lie. What are their BOMBing options? Let's see what Cummins comes out with in the '03, and we'll BOMB from there, eh?

luramax

i, too could have had a luramax instead of the ctd. fortunately some sanity set in and i remembered : a, it's still new and unproven; b, its got aluminum heads; c, the transmission is new (allison). i've already got one cummins in the rollin redneck residence, and love it. my wife even encouraged me to trade for a duralax about a month after i got the ram. i said, no thanks, i LIKE my noisy ctd. btw this is my 5th 4X4 dodge--maybe i've learned. i will admit however, i did look at the flowerpoke, too. fortunately i remembered the last (and i do mean the LAST) phord i had... ... ... ... ... luv my truck more everyday... ...

Don't Thing So

My buddy Ryan just bought a Dmax 4x4 long bed regular cab 6spd. At leased I think its a 4x4 kind of low to the ground to be a 4x4. He got a little drunk last weekend and started mouthing off about how bad his truck was and that he would hook to anything but my truck because its BOMBED. (he's kind of a puss) But my good friend Brain hooked up to him with his 2500 4x4 dodge with a 360 and drug the Duracrap around like a toy the cheby couldn't even hold back the dodge with the brakes he just kept dragging him. If I ever buy a scaner I will post the picture my grilfriend took.

You say Duracrap I say I Don't Think So.

Don't drink and drive because you might get humiliated by a dodge. :D

FLAME Forum?

I guess it would be fun even though I am not particularly brand loyal (disloyal?) Personally I like all of them with certain exceptions. Have never owned the same brand twice in anything. And quite surprisingly have not regretted any of them either. Like some of the others on this board competition does make the choices a lot better. Yes I do really like my 01 2500 QC its a nice truck like the engine the best. In my area there are tons of PSD's and while I like the CC have never really ponied up to liking the body style. I liked the previous FORD Super Duty a whole lot better. Thats just me. But out of all my trucks I still own my first Ford... . oh yeah its model year is 1937. Parked in the garage.

01 2500 QC SLT SB ETC AUTO Medium Bronze Tow Pkg, Camper Spl, Tow Mirrors, ABS, LSD, 3:54, power everything, infinity sound, Mike Brolin radio mount.

redneckdr

Them dudmax boys might have something with their Allison trannys. They have been around and going strong for a long time. That might be a good auto to back up our CTD's. And you know there's nothing like sitting around on a nice summer night and listening to a Chevy rust.

allisons

i think allison tannys are great!! i'm on my second in motorhomes--both md3060s. i agree that i'd like a 5 or 6 speed allison behind the ctd in the ram, BUT after they are proven. if you go to the luralax forums, you'll find that they are having some trouble with the transmission. i believe allison will get it solved, however. it's just a pain to have to take the truck back to the dealer and have them have for a couple of weeks while the get a new transmission. i think several of the allisons have had to be repalced. growing pains and first year blues:(

Yeah, the drive train in all the diesels is the weak link. Of course, I'm beginning to believe that has bled over to the gassers, too. I'm not jealous of any of the other two. If I had to switch, it would be to Ford. The Chevy's look OK. They just look old inside and boxy/square outside. That look may come back in style and appeal to me later, but Chevy needs to hire some designers.

Alan,

What, you don't think Chevy has designers? Why, just look at the new Avalanche! Obviously done by the same guy that did the Pontiac Aztec. Guess some people just don't appreciate fine design when they see it! ;)

Eww, now I feel sick to my stomach. :D I've seen two of them that people actually bought.

Yeah, What was I thinking when I said they need designers. What I should have said is that Chevy needs somebody to kick their designers a$$e$. Every time I see one of the Asstecs, I feel nauseous. I'd dang sure buy the new Ram 4 door gasser before I'd slide into an Avanlanche. Why does Chevy/GM name all their new stuff after things that don't last very long or are extinct... ... . Aztec, Avalanche, Duramax :p , etc.

And WHY would ANYONE want ANYTHING that sits dry, ugly, dirty and useless - LIKE A ROCK?;) :D :p

Ah, it's neat to see new stuff hit the scene, competition is good - as LONG AS it brings better stuff to the consumer at prices that are affordable, and operate as represented. Time will tell as to whether the new GM stuff will deliver - but *I* sure get nervous when I hear the B5. 9 and Ford PS engines are being replaced by "new technology" powerplants - so far, all they seem to incorporate is more tech electronics stuff to fail, befuddle mechanics, and need a never ending string of re-programming - and STILL won't work right! All that, plus diesels designed to function at higher RPM - overlooking the traditional advantages of great low-end torque, durability and longevity that made diesels popular in the FIRST place. NOW, it seems we are just getting GAS engines that happen to burn diesel fuel - at least as far as engine operating characteristics are concerned...

duralax, etc.

garyj... . etc

i agree. v8 diesels with their short stroke just won't lug with the ctd. i learned that lesson a long time ago with gas burners, even. the ol in line sixes would out lug a v8 any day, other things being equal. they brag about the duralax torque, and i've forgotten where the max is, but it's at considerably higher rpm. same for the flowerpoke, if i remember right. higher rpm = more wear other things being equal. the ctd still should outlast 'em. i still like my ctd clatter, and hope they don't keep fixing it til it's broke. beware of any product which says "new and improved" (read made cheaper, but more expensive to buy).
