Well I was going to get a T-Rex suspension, the wife gave me her blessing. Then she found out she's pregnant. So the T-Rex is out for a while. I've been reading about the skyjacker D25 coils, how's the ride with those? I was thinking about putting those on with some rancho 9000's, that setup I can afford right now. Anyone running this combo? How's the ride compared to stock? Any suggestions? I'm not trying to compare the T-Rex to this, so don't tell me how much better the ride would be with the T-Rex. :(

I have the D25 coils, however I only used the 'el cheapo Skyjacker shocks, the ride is very nice IMO, and no bottom out anymore, would do it again in a second.

Steve St laurent has the D25's and the 9000's, maybe he will chime in.

I run d25s and bilsteins. Great combo and I could not be happier with the ride. Do you need the adjustability of the 9000's? If you do, I would use 9000's in the rear and bilsteins in the front.

why use bilsteins in the front? Are they cheaper or do they offer a better ride? I don't need the adjustability, just a better ride than stock. thanks.

better quality product. I believe they are 5 or so dollars cheaper around $60 each retail and there was a TDR discount from offroadwarehouse that made them cheaper.

They ride very well on the front and back of my truck. They handle the front even with the bumper and winch. I have rarely found the need for more in the rear and then only with a heavy load in the bed and a heavy tongue bumper pull trailer.

Mine have been on the truck for over 2 years now and still perform like new.

Yes, I have D25's and RS9000x's on mine. The ride is better than the stock coils. I couldn't really compare to stock shocks because I had RS9000's on mine with the stock springs since not long after I bought the truck. I personally like the adjustability of the RS9000's even up front. I off road my truck regularly and when I go to the sand dunes I turn my front shocks all the way up and it helps a lot especially when going through whoops. On the street I run them on the middle setting. JMHO

I was told that you can't compare the Bilstiens to the RS9000x's because they are a completely different animal. The Bilstiens are self adjusting and new technology where the RS9000X's are old technology. Not trying to start a war here nor am I saying that the 9000's are not good. Just that they are completely different. Was told this by Central 4wd and they also said that if you want to save a little money you can go with the new Rancho RSX's. They are almost copies of the Bilstiens though the Bilstien tend to be "more vehicle specific".

Steve, I have been told that it is a PITA to adjust the 9000's in the front. Is this true. I am getting ready to buy new shocks and am leaning towards the Bilstiens since it seems that all the local offroad shops are recommending them over the 9000x's.

Anyone running the Bilstiens "over 8500gvr" on the front with the D25 coils? If so, do they over-extend on speedbumps and potholes? For that matter, do they overextend in any condition?

Thanks. :)

I have the 2" lift ones. They are a bit difficult to adjust up front because you have to reach in through the coil to get to the adjuster. It's easier to adjust them with the D25's than it was with the stock springs though - the coils are spaced a bit further apart. I've never tried the bilsteins, the off road shop I go through sells Rancho exclusively. They stand behind their shocks with a 100% lifetime replacement guarantee. If I have a bad shock (which I haven't had a bad RS9000 yet, have had worn out RS5000's though) I walk in and they exchange em for me no questions asked. I had RS9000's on my truck and needed the extra 2" for the lift - they upgraded me to the RS9000x's and with the different size for $25 a shock.

Is it ok to use stock height RS900s with the D25 coils? I just bought the coils and the truck already had the RS9000s on it when I bought it.

Thanks Steve. Sounds like you adjust your shocks alot. You might be a prime candidate to get the "In Cab Adjuster" for those 9000's. That would be a sweet setup.

Jason_K, stock hight shocks work but not good. I ran stock hight 9000's with my 2" spacers for quite some time but they top out pretty easy. I recommend you get longer ones as soon as you can.

I went with the Skyjacker 2. 5" leveling kit that included rear leaf springs. Very pleased with the ride, even wifey commented on how much better it is :D

I did it before T-Rex was available. Its about $1200 if you install it yourself, I did...

Note the absence of lift blocks in the rear. It's all spring for a much better ride and off road traction.

The stance is level now too

I am going to put the coils on mine too as soon as I can spare the cash. I would like to do the whole kit but I am saving for Kelderman so the coils are good enough for now ;)

Dane that lift looks really good. How about the load carrying capacity of the new rear springs, is it the same as the old ones?

What is Kelderman?

Kelderman manufactures 4-link air ride systems for our trucks.

I just need something to get me by in the looks department (level up the front, bigger tires and wheels) until I can afford the 4-link.

I have not tried the cabover camper since the install of the rear springs. The new springs have about 4-5" more travel than the stockers (the height of the factory lift blocks) and are softer before compression causes them to hit the lower thick overload spring you see in the picture at the bottom of the spring pack -

So, they are softer in the beginning and the change when they hit the overload leaf feels more linear than the stockers.

If you look closely in the picture you can see the bottom of my airbag above the spring, partially hidden by the exhaust pipe.

The gap you see from the top of the leaf spring over the axle to the bottom of the airbag is the space that used to be occupied by the factory lift block. I am going to have a shop fab me a spacer to fill the gap so I can run the airbags with the cabover.

I gotta tell you the difference in ride and handling over the bumps is night and day with the D25s, new leaf springs and Bilsteins. I can't imagine how nice the T-Rex setup would ride.
