Okay guys as you may or may not know my Dad (Jack in Alaska) has been bitten by the Bombing bug. He already has a set of 275 injectors and boost elbow/PS boost module installed on his 98. 5 5 speed manual (along with boost/egt/fuel press gauges). Now he wants a little more power. I figure that an EZ is the way to go but I have a few doubts/problems.

The problem is that he tows somtimes and he is getting a new 5ver that will be somewhere around 15K loaded. I also don't know what will happen to his clutch if I put an EZ on his truck. So I guess I need to know who out there has a 5 speed with and ez and 275 and tow 15K with no problems..... heheh or better yet is 275's and an ez going to blow up his 5 speed manual when he tows?? how about egt's with a big load??

JR2 for Jack in Alaska. (aka Dad)

JR2,

I had a PowerMax2 (suppose to be 80rwhp) in my '99 and the clutch went 104k miles, towing about 40% of that. I haven't run an ez but I would bet if you kept the settings low for towing the clutch would be ok, if it is ok now. The 275's only add about 33hp to an etc truck. From what everyone has said the ez will actually lower egt's. Your dad might try it and if he slips the clutch he can pull the injector and put the stockers back in to extend the inevitable. Sorry I'm not an expert on this subject but I didn't want your thread to go completely unanswered either, so you got my . 02.

P. S. My '02 etc didn't slip the clutch with my BD3's only but it is pretty slippery when the comp box comes into play.

The EZ will add fuel on all settings and pulling that big of a load the boost would be enough to cause extra fueling, so I would recommend the diesel dynamics true torque power module. That way if he has too much power he can put the setting to timeing only until he gets a better clutch. I tryed the true torque power module and it did add power in the timeing only setting, not much but some, this was in a auto truck I do not know if it will add power in timeing only in a manual truck, I would think it would but do not know for sure.

To the top one more time. I need more advice... can a 5 speed manual in a 98. 5 handle an EZ and 275 injectors when towing 14K lbs??? with a stock HX35 (with elbow and boost module)??

Thanks again...
