What are your computer specs? Have you contacted your local phone service to see about a better voice, fax ,or business line, or DSL? Are you using 1 phone line or is your computer line dedicated?

#1 is your computer hooked straight to the phone box on the outside of the house? If it is not. Run a new line out to the junction box. Most phone lines inside of the house are looped threw all the phones. One bad connection can kill computer dial speeds.

List computer spec's and operating system.

At first glance, I thought Dail Uppers was a new cult. :-laf

Unfortunately, if you don't have cable you probably don't have a very good phone line to your house either.

TDR lite is the best bet for this site. For the rest of the internet, well, pull up a chair and wait if Joe can't help you out.

Several years ago, a company named WebRamp made a device that was an ethernet hub and tow to three modems. The concept being that the two internal modems dialed up tow phone lines and logged in to tow internet accounts (or the same one once, depending on ISP). The modems then "bonded" and you got the aggregate speed of both modems. Advertised at 115 KBPS. Since no 56K modem ever gets the full 56K, you got somewhat less. Still better than a single 56K modem. The box had a third serial port and could add a third modem. I used to have tow of these. Loanded them to customers that suddenly lost dsl for a couple days. I will try to remember to look on Monday in the office. In the meantime try searching the web for a used one. Maybe someone else makes one. Of course, you need ot be able to give it two phone lines, and your ISP has to cooperate.

If you're limited to a 28. 8 kbps connection, you're almost certainly behind multiple A-D conversions, i. e. your phone circuit starts out analog at your house, gets converted to digital, back to analog, etc. Anything more than a single conversion will kill a 56k compression scheme.

The only way I think you'll get more than a 28. 8 connection is multiple phone lines and modems. AC has the right term, bonding. You'll also need to make sure that your ISP supports bonding. You may be able to find hardware with multiple modems built in, or a hub (like AC suggests) that will hang multiple modems. Personally, I *REALLY* like my USR Courier external modems. As a matter of fact, your ISP should be able to suggest hardware that works with their equipment.

If you're burning up modems, you need some good lightening strike protection on the phone lines.

My USR modem gives me 38. 6 on a single phone line. The modem that it replaced topped out at 28. 8. This modem, according to USR, will give me pretty close to 56 if there is only one A-D conversion between me and my ISP. Fat chance of that. It also works well with the acceleration software provided by my ISP (inreach.com). I'm using the 3rd of five options available for acceleration. The graphics are still pretty good for this selection and I'm getting good effective line speed. The phone lines in this area (Humboldt County, California) are lousy at best. I sometimes think that they are using barbed wire fence for some legs.

Thanks for the replys guys Ill start from the top.

TDR works great for me at 24. 0 the reason Im upgrading is becase 3D has reached the point to where I have so many pages I cant hardly list the pages on the server for a publish with out my sever timimg out . . I dont want an accerator all most of them do is mess with the picks and stuff... I need faster Uploads and down load speeds

nps- Yeah,, the phone lines to my house are crap

Ac-

so Shot Gunning is really called bonding ... . K... . but I was told that 99% of ISP wont let you do it anymore But I can ask,, and I will look for one of those things

Hey guys I'm also looking for help I get 21. 6kbps most of the time and 24. 0 if I'm lucky. I use to get 26. 4 and 28. 8 but for some reason it slowed down. I asked my ISP and was told to have the phone company do a line check, they told me it's good. So I guess I'm wondering if a new modem will help like the USR talked about earlier? I have one phone line, so I'm going to try a direct line to the box to see if that helps.

Thanks
