Bill , I have a computer doctor folder on my PC it includes



Adaware SE

MS Anti Spy

Pc-cillin

Defrag

Disk Clean Up



When ever things get STICKY I update all of them and run them .



Some run and update there selves . My PC is healthy for now



tho I have out grown the processer ,



I already added another 256 of memory IMO that didnt do anything at all.



I have minimal programs running at all times



Curently to Publish to 3D I turn off the Real Time scan Bring up my Firewall ... . STOP ALL INTERNET TRAFFIC..... then START IT THEN CLICK PUBLISH REAL QUICK if I do that I can get a 2MB file uploaded and it will go most of the time.



2MB takes me about 30 MINS to upload and it takes me an hour to download a song



I just flat out need to double my Upload/Download speed SOMEHOW but Im not Going with DIRCTWAY ... . theres no way ... ... . Ill stop using the internet first

Did you check with USR to see how that USR5686 compares to a USR5610 like I have in preformance. In the USR5610 description they mention that it is controller based and do not mention that in the USR5686 description. That may just be advertising, but I would check it out if I were you. I see that the USR5686 has an extra ability to allow voice at the same time as it's connected to the internet. I'm wondering if that degrades internet performance. I also noticed that they are still selling the USR5610B like I have so that may be an indication that it's a pretty good gadget.

I called SBC they said Im hosed



I Called my ISP they say im hosed Also



I asked my ISP if I could Bond/ Shotgun and they said I can do what ever I want and they have never heard of it.



After Shields if I have any $$ Ill pick up the modem and go from there

Actually, you should check with USR. The USR5386 may even be a better performer on lousy phone lines. The reviews I read before I bought mine said the USR5610 was the best. It is performing very well considering the environment. Dunno about how they compare now because I have not kept up with it. I think my ISP has reduced the number of dial up ports.



If I get disconnected during the busy part of the day it sometimes takes quite a few attempts to get connected again. The modem sees a dial tone because it does not complain about that. The ISP just does not answer. When I start up in the morning it always connects on the first try. My old modem was a crap shoot no matter what time of the day I tried to connect.
