Does anyone out there drive their high-hp 12 valve trucks everyday? I have an 03 right now and I am at a crossroads. I can either keep the 03 and put a pro street 66 turbo on it and build up the trans or I can buy a 98 12 valve and put twins and everything else in it and be at 600+hp for about the same amount of money in the end. My question is can you daily drive something like that? Are they finicky and hard to start and high maintenance or are they generally well behaved at that HP level? FWIW I will be having Dynomite Diesel build the engine with their stage 4 injectors and their pump work.

I don't see an issue with it. Mine is a 500+hp daily driver and all I worry about is getting the engine up to operating temp before hammering down. You may go through a bit more fuel with a pumped 12v cuz you'll be putting that power to the ground a lot but cruising should be good mileage. I get about 15-18 mpg on the freeway.

Jgheen have you dynoed your truck?

I would think the 03 would be better mannered. If I had to do it over, once you get over the initial cost, and unless you need big RPM, the HPCR is tough to beat.

No, not since I installed the Piers head, HTB2 or EDM injectors. Before I put that stuff on I was around 440hp and 930ft. lbs. I am pushing a lot more fuel than before and it seems to have much more power than the last time I dyno'd, so it has to be righ around 500hp and about 1000ft. lbs

Its all good, no Piers cam, just the stocker, but the head is ported up a bit from stock. Cam is probably the next project in an attempt to lower EGTs along with twins, but that will probably be a while yet.
