Chryco's new 4.7...quicker than the 360!

New Brain Teaser

I just saw on the news that D/C is gonna build a Giant SUV to compete with the HUMMER.

Stats on the giant SUV are:

It will be 9ft. tall X 7ft. wide and weigh 12,000lbs. The estimated cost will be $85,000.

I guess it will have to use at least an engine the size of the 8. 3L Cummins.

I don't believe this is at all the case. This is another case of the media blowing up and twisting a story to be something it's not. The vehicle in question is the Mercedes Benz Unimog which will be brought in under the Freightliner badge. It is NOT a SUV, it's a heavy truck, like being a 4WD FL60 or something like that. The media is trying to imply that this is another Ford Excursion type deal. They're trying to say D/C is bringing out a mall battle tank that's huge, gets bad mileage and will crush cars. The unimog will crush cars indeed but it's not going to be in hands of any suburban soccer moms unless they have CDL's.

UNIMOG! My favorite Mercedes. I saw one in Germany scrubbing the guard rail on the Autobahn. They scrub their gaurd rails, for goodness sakes! I also saw one doing some utility work at Lake Tahoe; very cool.

I'm wondering if they mean competition for the Military Hummer and that the military is interested in it.

Mogs are very cool but they are closer to a deus and a half than a hummer. I thought the gov't was look at the full size pick up world to replace the hummers.

Unimogs have come in several sizes and they are all awesome. AM's Humvees aren't even in the same league.

And yes, DOD is looking at modified pickups, project COMBATT (Commercial something Tactical Truck). They've got some tricked out Dodge Rams they're playing with that are a lot cheaper, but not sure if they'll cut it. JMO

Oops, too late. What silencer ring? (More fun than my 98 SST)

<font color=blue>Hate to do it, but gotta toss this over to the "Other" forum since it is in no way related to 24v Engine/drivetrain. I am putting it in the "Other" forum instead of "General Diesel" because we don't know which type of engine it'll have at this time (according to the above posts). Feel free to continue the discussion over there in that forum.
