My buddy was telling me the other day how Wal-Mart screwed one of his friends over not too many years ago. He had a small business making some sort of seasonal niche market decorative doodads and Wal-Mart came along and showed interest in his product. They made a deal with him to make a large quantity of a couple of his items, so he hired on more people, equipment and materials to fill Wal-Mart's order. Then Wal-Mart decided renig on the deal even though they had a contract. After some time with this large stock of product that would take years to sell Wal-mart comes back and offers pennies on the dollar. Since he didn't have a lot of alternatives he ended up selling to them at a huge loss. They didn't care about the breach of contract, they told him they do it all the time, that's what their lawyers are for.
This guy lost out big, since Wal-Mart jerked the carpet out from under him it killed his business and he was worse off than when he started.
There's no doubt that every business engages in unethical practices to a degree, but I believe Wal-Mart tops them all in the retail sector.
