Have a friend who drives a Dakota 4x4 with the 318. She ordered it with lower gears for pulling the horse trailer(not sure which ones). It gets no better than 15 miles/gal. Was wondering what she could do to improve that. I suggested 3" exaust and a K&N air filter. What do you guys think? Is there a Dakota site like the TDR??

IMO, if she's got 3. 90 gears and an auto, that's pretty much normal.

Might cost her close to $1K for complete header back exhaust and an FIPK K&N air intake. If that gave her 1 mpg I'd be suprised. I had a very bombed 97 Dakota, 318... . everything except a supercharger, and got 16 mpg. ave.

A friend of mine has a '99 4x4 ext cab. He thinks he is doing good when he gets 17mpg on the highway. Normal town driving is 14-15. But he doesn't drive a lot and likes the truck so he doesn't care.

Last night I updated my mileage log on Excel and noticed my truck has only dropped below 17mpg on 3 tanks since I passed the 2,000 mile mark. 3 sub-17 tanks in 57,000 miles isn't half bad
