Looking at the compressor wheel during routine oil change I noticed a piece missing from wheel, under the 12 pt. nut. Like where the tourque from the nut is applied, a small piece of metal looks to have been missing for some time and may be in intercooler or already been blown through engine.

Has anyone repaired their own turbo and can you replace just the wheel without any special balancing or other complcated procedure. HX35 Turbo.

I have also downloaded Holset's repair guide and seems to be an easy job.

Is it just the flat contact area under the nut, like a 1/4-1/2 inch long? If so, mine has that too and I also thought mine was broken at first. I later assumed it was for balance or something similar.

Holset and all turbo manufacturers machine stock off during the balancing process.

One place is right where the nut is. Another place inside the housing at the ends of the compressor wheel.

Yes it is a piece about 1/4" under the nut, sounds like it might have been removed for balancing. Funny how I never noticed that before.
