2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Pitman arm question

I want to replace the stamped cover on my front axle. I use a mag hyteck on my Dana 80 rear axle. I love the design but the 60 cover requires popping the tie rod off to remove the cover. I remove and clean inside at gear oil changes, popping the tie rod loose is as big a pain as scraping RTV.

Is there a rigid Dana 60 cover that will fit and has an o-ring or allow a lube locker gasket? I see Dana Spicer makes one but I am not sure about clearance issues. Thanks for any help you can offer and pics would be great! MBanning

Razor scraper on axle surface and wire wheel on cover clean in a few minutes. Bead of the right stuff and ready for a long time using AMZ/OIL 75-90 SevereGear. Always ran a MagHytec on the rear of my second gen but not worth it on the front.

Heads up on the Mag-Hytec IF you have retrofit to the third gen track bar.

The third gen track bat interferes a tiny bit with the M-H cover. I think I have solved that by grinding off some of the fins, but the final test result is not in yet. By final test, I mean real-world in the worst possible conditions.

glad this got asked. I but a Currie cover for my 70 and wanted to get a matching one for the front but not sure what fits. 1) is it true that 60s and 70s have the same covers? so I just need to make sure its one that would clear the steering linkage?

I used the same (re-usable) seals on my buddies 98 for front and rear differential.
So from my point of view they are the same, but maybe there is a difference in the covers but not the seals.
I can't confirmation this.

Correct, the oem cover is slightly larger on the D70 but the bolt pattern is the same. Most aftermarket covers will interchange.

From Torque King:

Tech Note 2: Bolt Pattern
The bolt pattern on all Dana-Spicer Model 60 and 70 series axles is the same. The covers however, have different top and bottom flange widths. When using QU40367 gasket on a Model 50, 60 or 61 beam type axle, approximately 1/4" of gasket will extend above and below the cover. You can trim this excess material off if you wish.

It has been a long time, but I think I just had to jack up the corner under the frame and maybe turn the wheel some to get enough clearance for installation.

I believe Mag Hytec is the only one with an o-ring. I'll be selling mine soon. Message me if you're interested.

Why R&R it every oil change? The next time the cover is removed weld a nut near the bottom on the inside, drill a hole through the cover and install a plug on the outside. Easy and inexpensive.
