so i got an 02 dana 60 for my 96 wanted to get rid of the cad and get the bigger 2 piston calipers and floating rotors but the problem is that the axle does not turn over very easily it is very tight so i thought it may be the brakes so i pulled them not the problem than i pulled both hubs and both turn freely next i pulled both the axle shafts still tight i think i have it narrowed to the pinion gear berings so what all is involved in changing the berings and if i change the pinion gear bearings should i change the carrier bearings too and what all is involved in the swap

thanks

If the pinion bearings are not rough or have not had water in the diff. then it may be ok. The preload on a pinion with used bearings would be about 10-20 in pounds to turn the pinion. You would need a press and bearing splitter to do the bearings plus a dial indicator and other tools to set up the running clearance of the gears and a hefty torque wrench as the torque on the nut that holds the u-joint yoke on the poinion shaft is like 330 ft. lb. bg
