Not sure how many want a D70 when the D80 is so much stronger??? That 3. 08 RP would be a commuter only truck, I would hate to pull anything with it.

I don't like the looks of the wear pattern in the pinion. Someone had it installed to deep from the looks. It was running all the way to the inside of the gear.

I don't have any complaints with my 3:08's and towing. I set the crusie at 70 and run with it. A 3:54 geared truck might get to speed just a little faster. But not enough to matter.

Here's a couple reasons for you. If you own a 89'-91. 5 CTD automatic it is a 3 speed, they came with 3. 08 to keep the rpm down at higher speed. If you own a 4x4 in that year range and needed a front or rear axle? Answer for me is replace it. These aren't gasoline powered, that gear works great in mine. I'll add a four spd OD next and like it even more.

just again did my yearly 2000 mile rnd trip road trip to the north territory, and um I wasn't complaining one bit with my 3. 07/getrag combo! pegging the 85 mph speedo and hauling *** keeping up with a bombed 2nd gen all the way up grants pass on I-5 going over 100mph was fun too :)

oh yeah I avg'd 72. 5 mph and 24 mpg for the entire trip.

Yeah, I almost got a 3. 07 Getrag truck from NJ. Would have been awesome, IMO. Have great MPGs and if I cant pull a hill in 5th, drop to 4th. Same ratio as 4. 10s with OD. I think Dodge should have offered a 3. 25 or so for hwy driving, and 3. 73s for towing. 4. 10s are just ridiculous.

Yes I would love to have 3. 07 as well for the mileage increase. Might even have a chance to use first gear once in a while too.

3.08 is a real keeper

Put a Gear Vendor (gear splitter) behind that 727 3 speed torqueflite with a 3. 08 rear-end and you got yourself one great daily commuter or tow heavy!

I always thought 3. 73 would be a great towing gear. With a stock motor and stock automatic 3. 54s just weren't enough gear for farm work. I got 4. 10s and lived with them for a while. As I upped the power, the higher gear became more and more appealing. Now that I have the power and a built trans, I swapped in a set of 3. 73s. I haven't towed with them yet, but I really like them running unloaded.
