Dana 70 Front Axle

I just came across a D-70 front end. It's brand new, looks like the manufactures date was 1994. It looks like the same constuction as my 79 D-60, kingpin ends, etc. Does anybody know anything about the D-70 front? What would it be made for or put in? Axle tubes are 3. 5in verse 3in for the D-60, center section is on the drivers side. Anybody know whats it's worth? brand new, with lockouts, pinion yoke, rotors, steering bar, 5. 13 gears.

D70 front kingpin axle is only used in construction equipment, the most common being off the road scissor lifts. Also used in large on road scissor, all combustion powered (all above is as far as i know).

They were made in various lengths, different wms to wms, i believe that there might be some that are able to use in automotive application without shortening them, but more research is needed.



Measure wms to wms on the axle first! srw chevy d 60 front is 69", i believe pre 2nd gen dodge is close if not same.



Please pass along information if you dont buy it? I would also like to know how you sourced it? i figure the only way to get one was to wait for a scissor lift to burn in a fire or part one from a lift by accident, LOL.



BTW this size scissor lifts i believe weigh more then a big fullsize truck. more then 8000+lbs i think. maybe more like 10000+, the little electric one i used was 6000lbs.

A guy that lives in the next town over recently swapped out his D-80 (disc brake... ) rearend for a Dana-135 out of a F*rd.



Overkill?! - Um... yeah.



His dually D-80 was sold before I could get my gritty paws on it.....

The wms to wms on the D-70 measured 70. 5 in. I have a '79 Ford D-60 in my dodge and it measured that also. My friend has a D-44 in his ford, it measured that as well. Something else i found out is that it has 35 spline inner and outer axles.

All D70's have 35 spline outers.



The Dana 60 front has 35 spline inners, and 30 spline outers, you can swap the 35 spline outers onto the dana 60. . this is a very popular swap.

I was shocked to find out that when dodge went to driverside drop axle's they had 30 spline inners. So in reality it not really a dana 60 more like the ford dana 50.
