My owners manual is vague on which rear end I have. 97 2500 CC 5spd CTD camper package.
What would it be? Also Limited Slip.

My '96 has a Dana 80 rear end. The only difference is mine is 4x4. I would think yours would have an 80 also. The automatic '94 my son drives is a 4x4 but has a 70 rear end.
Do you still have the sticker on the hood that tells what you have?

I know what you mean! The manual looks like it's a 70 but the 96 & 97 5speeds are 80's. The autos are 70's. That's what the dealer told me when I ordered mine - mines an 80. Craig

I have an "80" in mine as well but it is actually a hybrid. It has parts from both the 70 and 80 as do all other 80's out there in the dodges.

Call your local DC repair shop and give them your vin no. and they can pull up what rear end your truck came with from factory. I had them print out the whole sheet. Mine has limited slip and they call it anti spin. Also, the top of the diff has an 80 stamped on it and one of the metal tags says use lim slip oil

As I understand it...

2500 auto has a DANA 70.
2500 5-speed has a DANA 80 center section w/DANA 70 axles.
3500's have DANA 80's.

When I had my right rear axle seal replaced (twice)the parts house sent my mechanic the wrong size(to small). He call them up and have them send out a larger one.
He told me my seal was same size as 3500's he had done.
Other than that I looked evey where to confirm 80 hybrid.
The TDR was where I found out about the 80 hybrid in the 5-spds. I thought I had 70(I had 94 ram brochure).

Thanks everybody, it looks like its a Dana 80, I am glad of that less chance of BOMB damage.
