Just an update on the 70 saga. I picked up a low mileage 70 out of a 2000. Intentions were to rebuild the Powr Lok after checking runout, backlash and the pattern. Everything looked good until we took the Powr Lok apart and found a spider gear that was galled up on the cross shaft and a cracked side gear. The shop I bought it from overnighted me replacement parts at no charge so I could keep moving along. I now have 3 70's, my original 170k, my clean low mileage one and another I picked up for a parts axle when the owner realized how much it would cost to repair. NONE of them have enough spiders and side gears to make a complete functioning Powr Lok. The replacement parts sent to me make it possible to have one axle up and running today. The sources for Dana/Spicer parts in our area (West Michigan) all tell me the Powr Lok internal kit is on a national backorder. I managed to find enough pieces and parts to take my clean 2000 housing and build it up with a new Spicer 35 spline Powr Lok, 35sp Yukons, all new internals including Spicer R&P and even switch over to disc brakes. After seeing what Ive seen in these 3 axles, look for cracks. I have a pile of bad internal parts now from these 3 axles and a bigger pile of $$ spent. Special Thanks to Brad Ingram and Scheids Diesel for the help. I think I have just taken the longest route possible to end up with a Mag Hytec on my truck.
