Can someone post pics og a Dana 70 axle and a Dana 80 axle? I am wanting a heavy duty truck but I can't see spending 7000 to convert a 3/4 ton to a 1 ton sigle rear wheel. Also does anyone have a pic of dual stacks on a 2500 and of a 3500? Any comments are accepted. I am trying to make a quick decision on this.

The 2500 manual trannies had the 80, the 2500 autos had the 70. I hope this helps.

Also $7000 to convert a 2500 to a SRW 3500, you must be talking all new parts? I would have to imagine you could do it for much, much less if you did your shopping.

What are your intentions for the truck?? Whatever power you build, the 70 will be just fine. There are guys running more power than you can dream of and the 70 has held up fine.

I don't know who gave you the prices for that rearend but he must be the same shyster that put the Dana 44 in the 2500 for that other fella some time back. If your serious start looking at truck salvage yards for one. Even if it needs bearings and brake work it will be one heck of alot cheaper than that. You'll need 4 jackstands and 2- 12 ton bottle jacks and hand tools. Just be safe and make sure the truck is on solid ground first. Good luck and KEEP the money you saved. :D

I think I have decided to stay with the 2500 truck. Can someone post a pic of the rear of a Dana 70 axle with the camper package. Thanks for the comments. Hey Kat can you post a pc of your truck?

Jacob, keep in mind the limits of the single wheel 1 ton, are the same as the 3/4 tons, the tires are the first thing to fail, the only thing you could gain with a 1 ton rear is the larger brakes, but if i remember right, you can add the wider shoes, and larger drums to the 2500 axle. If you want to carry more, get the 19. 5 wheels/tires. Legally you are at 8800,GVWR,no matter what you do,it wont change the GVWR.

I don't have a digtal camera. The camper package gets you a rear sway bar and on my truck two overloads. You ony get one overload now on the new trucks. You just want a picture from behind looking at the axle? Or what kind of picture you want?

I am looking for a pic of a Dana 70 from the rear of the axle from underneath. Only one overload spring? I thought that each one had two leafs in each one?

I'll try to get some pictures, gives me a reason to show off the MagHytec I jsut put on :)

Yes on the new trucks you only have 1 overload. My truck does have two tho. I have an 01 and a friend of mine has an 01. 5 hes a member but doesn't post.

Looks like I wil be replacing the POS overloads with the HD types. When you arder the camper package is the extra springs and the sway bar the only added items? I would love to see your Mag-Hytec cover.

Why not go with the Firestone Air-Ride helpers and a Helwig sway bar? The air bags allow you to adjust your ride to the weight and the Helwig bar is about a 1/4 inch heavier than stock.

Over the past 1/4 century or so Detroit has varied their labeling of the HD single rear wheel trucks as HD3/4 ton or 1 ton. For examples, in the early-mid 80s, Dodge had a 1 ton at 8510 gvw and during another year a 3/4 ton at 8550 gvw. Chevy had a C6P option on the 3/4 ton at 8600 and essentially the same truck in 1 ton label. Ford did the same thing. I think registration costs and residential streets where it was allowed varied in some states. That may have contributed to the confusion.

At any rate, the 8800 gvw 3/4 ton Ram 2500 is the same as the old one ton single wheel setup. The carrier bearings on the Dana 80 are about 40% wider than the 60 and 70 series. The spider gears may be bigger too but I didn't bother to measure them. Note that the driveshaft is fatter on stick Rams
