I have 1990 250 with 3 speed auto and 3. 01 rear end. (wierd huh?) I have Service manuals but I'm not quite sure if its a Dana 70 or what?
I bought the truck new and have always wanted to change to 3. 54, but its still on the wish list.
Any thoughts?
Thanks :

I have an 89 with the same transmission and axle. I think you may be misreading the gear ratio though. Mine says 3. 07. I'm trying to do the opposite. I want higher gears. I run out of rpm's before I run out of power because the transmission is so low geared and the torque converter is to loose. I haven't been able to find out exactly what axle I have, but I did find a ring and pinion set here, www.drivetrain.com. It's under the Dana 44 ring and pinion sets. First and highest gear ratio available. If I get any more info I'll post.

The rear axle should be a Dana 70 with a 10. 5" ring gear. If you have a 4X4 the front axle is a Dana 60. These trucks have the good stuff!
