Can anybody tell me if I still need a friction reducer if I'm useing Amsoil in a limited slip Dana 80 and if I do need it what brand name should I use?

When I used 2k75w90 I had to add two bottles of 43161 Dana additive. I recently switched to RP Maxgear 75w90 and it's fine without the 43161. I also got rid of the ring and pinion noise I was developing with the amsoil. Craig

I've changed mine several times in 130,000 miles. I've decided the only limited slip additive that works for me is the stinky Mopar stuff from the Dodge dealer. It usually takes 1-1/2 to 2 full bottles fo the stuff, but it doesn't wear out in a few months like some of the others I tried.

Maybe you need it and maybe you don't. When I switched to the Series 2K 75W90, I didn't put any in and I haven't needed it. Others, though, have needed to add some.

There was another thread in which someone said the reason some need the modifier and some don't is that the factory pre-loading (?) on the clutches varies between units. Some are tighter and some are looser. The tighter ones will need some modifier, and the others won't. For that matter, the looser ones could almost use a friction enhancer! That Series 2K seems to be rather slippery stuff!

Go for a drive to warm up the diff, then accelerate through a bunch of left turns. If you hear the left-rear wheel chirping, you need some modifier. I believe someone suggested adding one ounce at a time, then doing figure-8s to work it into the clutches, until the chirping stops.

Do several tight figure 8's with any lube after a change.

Mine has over 100,000 miles , most of it BOMBed and abused. No problems whatsoever with the Amsoil 2000 75W-90. Never needed any additive.

The Dana stuff may be the same as D/C's. It wreaks, big time! If you get it on you, you'll have to wear it off. It's good stuff and lasted the duration. Craig
